More entropy.

It's no good, the tides of entropy are still high here. Or maybe the tides of mope, but it's more feeling overwhelmed with stuff that Needs Doing than just plain mopey.

markgritter is doing his part: he installed a new toilet seat last night and sleek new drawer pulls in the bathroom. Last night I pulled open a drawer, and the handle did not fall off and have to be propped back on (stripped screws) with much swearing. That made me feel better all by itself.

Unfortunately, it means that I'm seeing our other closet and drawer pulls with new eyes. Ick! How fussy! How very not-us! I would have said, if you'd asked me, that our closet and drawer pulls were really not much our style, but who thinks to do anything about it? How much difference could it make? (Um. Please don't cry, retrobabble. Don't tear your hair. It is nice hair. We've thought of it now, and that's something, isn't it?) So there may be an era of new pulls around here when I go to another hardware/home maintenance store, which I will have to do anyway due to absence of humidifer replacement parts at the last one. They're cheap. They're easy to install. And now I keep noticing the old ones, feeling and seeing them as I didn't before.

Anyway, surely the entropy must recede at some point, and in the meantime, there are stories to tell and clothes to wash. Pigs to slop, as matociquala would say. Gotta slop the pigs. Chop wood, draw water, and all that.

Also there is a note on my desk that says, "Social insurance of heroic death availability re: Valhalla," and that can't help but mean good things for the day to come, can it?

but who thinks to do anything about it? How much difference could it make?

This is the sort of thing I'm always thinking about (when in my own home-- fortunately my wacky brain doesn't usually presume to think about how others places would look best IMHO unless someone specifically asks my opinion).

We did put in new drawer pulls in our bathroom not long after I moved in and it made a huge difference. But I'm always looking around and seeing changes to make. If only I could wave a magic wand! 'Cuz I don't have the time, energy, and money to make all the changes (both big and small) I'd like to make.

It sometimes actively bugs me that things aren't as good as they could be aesthetically. Occasionally I envy people that can turn that off or don't think of these things.

I also imagine my grandparents would be horrified if they knew that I gave away a perfectly good toaster and replaced it with a prettier one (that would match our kitchen once we get it painted).

It bugs me that things aren't as good as they could be aesthetically, too, but the problem is, it never ends. I changed out the lightswitch plate in this office because the old one was cracked and bugging me. Now I'm noticing the closet pulls. When I finish with that, I can't tell you what I'll notice, but I'm pretty sure there'll be something.

And a lot of this stuff is not stuff anyone else will appreciate predictably. If you paint your walls a vastly different color, people mostly notice. I doubt that most people have noticed the lightswitch plate in the music room, though.

My grands are more the opposite: they appreciate generosity, and they want us to have nice things. So they would be startled but not horrified on the toaster front.

It really is always something! The outlets are bugging the crap out of me, but I'm almost scared to fix them, because then something else will bug me, and maybe that thing will be worse! Or more expensive/difficult to make right! Or involve more exclamation points*!
