+1 on The Changeover. Thanks for the reminder. The last time I read it was pre-library system amalgamation and there wasn't much else by her I could find.

Reading further down, I also second the Nina Kiriki Hoffman. Quite a lot of her short fiction hits very nicely and sensibly sideways emotionally, if that makes sense. Sort of reminds me of you actually. Unfortunately, much of it isn't collected, which leaves one with having to find copies of magazines or anthologies. The Thread that Binds the Bones is powerful, but Past the Size of Dreaming has a special place in my heart.
