You know what day it is.

Miss Ista is sitting on my lap, wrapped in her binky. She was a little carsick on the drive home, but she's otherwise doing well, and so are the rest of us about her (though we're not the healthiest lot in the world right now: [livejournal.com profile] timprov is having one of his bad days, and I seem to have caught [livejournal.com profile] markgritter's cold -- but in terms of having the puppy, we're dandy).

[livejournal.com profile] markgritter took some pictures, but I'm not going to get them up yet tonight. Still, take my word for it: I have a puppy. Right here. Right now.

Cool.

Ah, is that why the weather is so nasty? Dog days of summer and all?

Congratulations to Ista on her new people. I'm sure they will turn out to be the finest people in the whole world.

Amazing how many puppies end up with this result, as a percentage.

Puppy! Yay!

Still delighted over the name, too.

[identity profile] mrissa.livejournal.com 2005-07-12 11:02 am (UTC)(link)
She's already starting to answer to it. When she started to chew my mom's sandal, I said, "Ista, no!" and she immediately dropped it. Of course I praised her to the high heavens. Because she is a good girl.

What I don't know is the rest of her name. She has an AKC registry to send in, so she needs a middle name of some sort. So far [livejournal.com profile] timprov's suggestions are just Ista de Chalion and Ista Good Dog (because she is da good dog), but I'm thinking something else. I'm afraid it may turn out to be some hippie geeky name, but at least I'll get that sort of thing out of my system with the dog and not visit it on the human babies.

[identity profile] mkille.livejournal.com 2005-07-12 11:21 am (UTC)(link)
Wasn't there a name [livejournal.com profile] markgritter was advocating for a human baby? You could get *that* one out of the way on Ista.

[identity profile] mrissa.livejournal.com 2005-07-12 12:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Pion? Yes, Pion did enter the discussion last night.

[identity profile] mkille.livejournal.com 2005-07-12 06:35 pm (UTC)(link)
"Ista Pion" sounds like a baking question to me. Not that it would disqualify it as a name. I'm quite fond of pie.

[identity profile] mrissa.livejournal.com 2005-07-12 07:36 pm (UTC)(link)
It sounds like a baking question from a toddler, no less. Not that I'm unfond of toddlers, either.

Really - he's truly excited!

[identity profile] mrissa.livejournal.com 2005-07-12 10:59 am (UTC)(link)
He is lovely. My last puppy's best friend was a little sheltie named Tasha, so the look of collies and shelties is a happy familiar one for me. They are so lovey and smart.

[identity profile] writingortyping.livejournal.com 2005-07-12 11:02 am (UTC)(link)
I told him about Ista, and he cocked his head, so he's definitely thrilled for you. Either that, or he wants a carrot.

Have been reading TN, BTW, in small(ish) doses on my screen!

[identity profile] mrissa.livejournal.com 2005-07-12 12:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Good deal on both counts. We like carrots.

What, if you have a puppy, your ordinary cold will go away in 2-4 days? I suppose she hasn't kicked in yet. She's still sleeping in her crate.

[identity profile] mrissa.livejournal.com 2005-07-12 01:06 pm (UTC)(link)
This is true.

My old dog, when she was an old dog, was a most excellent Nurse Puppy. She would sit with whoever was sick and occasionally lick their hand. Sometimes, if it seemed necessary, she would place her 9# bulk on whoever was sick, to hold them down. Miss Ista is not nearly settled enough to serve in that role, but I'm not nearly sick enough to need it.

[identity profile] cadithial.livejournal.com 2005-07-12 12:36 pm (UTC)(link)
What's your definition of binky? I always thought it was the cork you put in a babies mouth to make them stop screaming :P

[identity profile] mrissa.livejournal.com 2005-07-12 12:43 pm (UTC)(link)
To me, binky = blankie. And the object you have described is a nuk or a plug (or, at the store when you're buying one, a pacifier).

[identity profile] greykev.livejournal.com 2005-07-12 10:56 pm (UTC)(link)
puppy puppy puppy!

Is the proper term for Miss Ista a chocolate poodle, given her coloring?

[identity profile] mrissa.livejournal.com 2005-07-13 07:21 pm (UTC)(link)
No, she's a silver-beige.

Yes, I realize that she is neither silver nor beige. I'd say, "Discuss," but actually she will turn a silvery pale brown color once she's older. The breeder wanted to be very clear with us that we were not buying a brown poodle.
