What I've Been Doing Again/Still

This, people, is what we call the homestretch. All the same, I have closed the file and am going to be done for the week, to start up again on Monday. Enough is enough, and this is enough.

Yesterday did not go as planned. Vertigo. Lots of vertigo. Continuing into today. Wheeeeee. This could stop any day now. But I managed to have a good day in several regards, despite this nonsense, and I intend to have a good day today, dammit. Just try to stop me.

Alas but no; thanks for the kind thoughts, though. I am determined to go to a picnic for my favorite 13-year-old's birthday: markgritter can drive and hang onto me and get me somewhere steady at the picnic, and I can have a good time despite the vertigo. I'm as used to it as you can be, I guess.

How often? I don't know, but in the last month or so it's been 1-2 days a week.

I was about to tell you in detail why you should not be impressed, and then I decided, you know what? I can accept a compliment. Not everything I cook has to be "the easiest thing ever" and not everything I write has to be "really no big deal."

That was excellent! It is good manners to accept compliments, particularly but not exclusively sincere ones, with grace and apparent pleasure. Would that more people did so.

Not every moment is the moment for obsessive self-critique. Nor is every moment the moment to overtly doubt others' motives. My first step in accepting compliments was, "How nice of you to say so!", but that was actually a pretty crappy first step, because it implies pretty strongly that the other person doesn't even actually believe the compliment themselves. Which is an unpleasant thing to do to someone who is, after all, complimenting you.

Well, I am certainly glad that you guys got this straightened out while I was up north, because I want to say, You totally Rock, Marissa. I am Awed by all the strikeouts on all those chapters.

This is in no way attempting to minimize that I am writing chapters -- for which adulation thank you -- but please do remember that all of these chapters have some text on them at this point. None of them are being written whole and from scratch this week.
