Why advertising is not as awesome as they hope, part 732

Auto insurance commercial: And they'll give you an English muffin, toasted with a little butter.

What I did not say: That is offbeat and pleasantly ridiculous! I should look into changing our car insurance to this company.

What I did say: Hey, I haven't had an English muffin in ages! They put my benedict at Lucile's on those amazing eggplant slices, which was good but not the same thing. I should put English muffins on the grocery list.

(With blackberry peach jam just now. Was good.)

So I had crumpets when I went to Britain, which were pretty much like badass English muffins. They were so toasty and tasty... but I've never been able to reproduce them back at home.

I have English muffins. And I shall eat them now.

When I was young, I shied from English muffins like a vampire from sunlight. The mere existence of Egg McMuffins confused and revolted me. I was convinced English muffins were formed of some appalling cacophony of bizarre flavors and textures. Then I finally got forced by pressure or hunger into eating one and was like, "Oh, wait, this is just a baked good like any other baked good."

I was a weird little kid.

Anyway, I am very glad to hear of your muffin enjoyment, though my brain keeps reading your post wrong and thinking you had eggplant slices with blackberry peach jam.

Heh, no! The eggplant slices were with a Cajun tomato sauce and poached eggs and hollandaise. So good.

I didn't like them when I was a kid, either. They were Not What I Liked. There's a funniness to them, but now I like said funniness.

Mmm, yes, English muffins. And Bendectine eggs. Mmmm...
