It's a shame that These Truths turned out to be so horribly miserable. It's about time we had a new single-volume US history - it's been a generation since Howard Zinn's A People's History... and while Roxanne Dunbar-Ortiz's An Indigenous Peoples' History... does a lot, it doesn't do everything you'd want a single-volume US history to do (not that I'm saying she was trying to; the comparison to Zinn just comes up a lot because of the similarity of titles). I find myself wondering if a comprehensive single-volume US history is even possible, given the expansion of what is considered history. It was hard enough to fit everything in one volume when one was writing "the history of rich white men in America."
