1. Andromeda Spaceways wants to buy "The Beast's Apprentice." Yes, that does make my third sale in less than a week. Yes, that does make me an extremely happy kid. (This is a sort of Beauty and the Beast story, genders switched and some other changes made.) And yes, that does mean I found a home for one of these #$&$@#% fantasy long-shorts that's been floating around. Wheeee!

2. I get my puppy girl. The little brown puppy of these photos will come home to live with us. Her name is Ista. I nearly cried with relief. My puppy. No more waiting around, no more trying to keep hope to reasonable levels.

Anyone who wants to give me any more good news is hereby put on alert that it's apparently that day, so come on ahead.

I have a new icon to make. Edited to add: Well, that didn't take long.

I love fireflies, too. I never captured them as a kid, but I chased them ad infinitum.

Yay, puppy. My kitten is driving me nuts right now. How many times does she have to attempt to climb my bare legs with her claws???

Enjoy! (How did you come by the name Ista?)

Woo, new puppy! Enjoy the puppy breath. Is she named from the Chalion books?

Puppies generally do not climb. Scramble up into your lap with their claws, yes, but not climb.

Ista is the heroine of Lois McMaster Bujold's Paladin of Souls. We had been thinking about having a dog called Meriadoc, and I was troubled when I met this wee beastie, because she is clearly not Meriadoc. And then I just had it: Ista.

The Bujold Ista is what I thought of right away, but I didn't know you were such a fan! I like that book quite a lot.

Congratulations on your sales and about your puppy!

I hope you'll post some photographs soon--your icon is perfect.

Ista--how pretty.

We don't actually get to fetch her until after [livejournal.com profile] markgritter and I get home from London, so I won't have new photos for awhile. When I do, I'll post them.

It's partly that I'm that much of a fan and partly that it's a character name that really suits the dog, and seems likely to suit her more as she grows up.

I like it! Great name. I wish certain people around here would let ME name a pet. Our dog came prenamed. My husband named Simba. And I swore when I brought our kitten home, I was going to name her. Then Glen told me her name was Diamond, and as evidence he presented me a beautifully drawn and cut out cat wearing a huge red diamond that he had separately drawn, cut out, and taped to her collar. What can I say to that???

*grumble*

The advantage of getting a pet first and a baby second is that I doubt that Ista will attempt to name any future spawn for us. No matter how hard she insists on "woof," I think we're much more likely to pick something else.

The disadvantage is that we won't have cute little kid-new baby pet moments like the one you described. The matching drawing and collar ornament would have done me in, too!

I am very happy about the story sales. That was nice to wake up to, and oh yes! on the puppy. And the name, also.
