So far today:
--[livejournal.com profile] timprov's neurologist appointment went smoothly
--we picked up swatches of fabric to match paint to the sofa(s) we're ordering
--we had good lunch
--we walked the beastlet and saw turning sumac (Sumac! FALL!)
--we arranged for T's CPAP
--we watched the BNL "Lovers in a Dangerous Time" video again
--I worked on Sampo some more
--I read some New Scientist
--I talked to my Dad and my cousin Catherine
--I found out that my friends got out of Houston and are now getting back into Houston and have only minimal damage

Getting by. Almost could-be-worse.

And the Aesir noir novel is making noises in the corners of my brain. I have to poke at about 400 years of worldbuilding for it, which should be a nice break after Sampo stuff.

I'm glad to hear you are getting by.

It's a beautiful fall day here, and this morning Mom and I planted hyacinths, and this afternoon we'll put in pansies that will bloom until snowfall and then start blooming again in early, early spring. I've definitely hit "could be worse" here.

Sumac, the first time I saw it, was So Cool. I called it "Giant Fern Tree." Then I got used to it, and it was a lowkey sort of happy. Then I bought a house with massive sumac infestation around the edges of the property, and can I just say, that stuff is nearly as persistent as bamboo, so now as often as not I think "gaddum weed tree!" when I see it. Sigh.

I wrote this comment once, but I think it was on your NG feed, so you never saw it: what the heck is Aesir?

The Aesir are the largest/most powerful family/group of Norse gods. Most of the Norse gods the average person has heard of (Thor, Odin, etc.) are Aesir. The other family/group of gods is the Vanir, notably featuring Frey and Freyja, among others.

There are Vanir in my Aesir noir book. (You put Aesir in my Vanir noir book! Um. Never mind.)
