I have one lousy rejection and zero acceptances to report for the week. I've written 4 or 5 thousand words of Sampo and worked on contract work and caught up with house crap from when I was sick. Melvin the Laundry Monster threatened again. I prevailed again.

Any other acceptances or rejections aren't likely to get to me until Sunday anyway. I suppose if they're on e-mail they might; I can check e-mail from the folks' house.

Mark and I are having an early dinner and then hopping in the car and driving through the entirety of Iowa. There's a lot of Iowa there. In college we used to say that we should give Iowa to Rhode Island and make them take it with them. On the other hand, I've had a lot of good conversations while driving Iowa. Most recently Mark but also Timprov, Dad, and the Sass brothers. I dozed in the backseat while the Sass brothers talked to each other one Iowa. That was fascinating. Siblings are the strangest thing. I keep having people with siblings in my fiction, because, y'know, people do. But they don't make a heck of a lot of sense to me. People who are otherwise perfectly reasonable will go nuts with their siblings, and in entirely unpredictable ways.

I'm very glad my cousin is marrying this guy Jimmy. He seems like an awfully nice guy, and (like the rest of us) Marmar didn't always date awfully nice guys. And if any president sends Jimmy somewhere very dangerous, I will just have to hate him forever and ever, and that's the end of that. National/international news is driving me to crankiness. Really and truly it is. I'm trying to be A Good Mris, but I just want to snarl at all and sundry.

It's not just the news; it's ongoing weariness and worries about my Onie and all sorts of things. Onie's MRI results should be in next week. It's very easy to forget that she's 92. She's been so active and healthy. It isn't at all like when Great-Grandma Lingen got sick: she'd been sick all my life. It's a lot more like when Gran got sick.

We found out Gran was sick maybe a month before she died, tops. I think it was more like a fortnight. I am trying not to dwell on this analogy too long for obvious reasons.

(For those of you who need a scorecard, my Onie is my grandma's oldest sister. Aunt Leona = Annie Ona = Annie Onie = Onie. The whole Japanese demon thing also works just fine. Onie is a widow with no children; she spends holidays with us, and we like that just fine and would gladly do several more of them with her. Sigh.)

Have a good weekend. I'll be back soon.
