mrissa: (hats off)
Today I sold a story to Apex, "The Salt Path." It's my first sale to them and my 98th fiction sale overall. Yay!

Here, at last, is my Minicon schedule:

SAT 4:30-5:00 Veranda 1/2

READING Marissa Lingen

It doesn't say so in the materials, but I will be reading "The Ministry of Changes," which I sold to Tor.com last month and which is in the same universe as my previous Tor.com story. Also if there is time a short-short. But we will not plan on that with a half-hour slot.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

SUN 1:00 PM Veranda 5/6

Which Came First

The chicken or the egg? The story or the world? Does the story you want to tell determine the setting, or does your chosen setting demand a certain kind of story to be told in it? Are there some types of stories that simply cannot be told in a particular setting? How do creators balance these seemingly opposing forces in imagining their tales?

Dana M. Baird, Jane Yolen, Marissa Lingen, Pamela C. Dean, Ruth Berman

I note with amusement that we have no moderator designated for the panel, and therefore we will have to be some kind of self-moderating commune. If ever there was a panel that would have multiple success modes as a self-moderating commune, I think it's this one.
