Nothing editorial in the mail this week. No acceptances, no rejections, nothing.

Well, it's not like I'd have had a lot of time to send things back out anyway. But this week I will! Take note, o editing and agenting types: this week there is time!

Sigh.

Anyway, I'm trying not to drown in house chores here. We've got nightstands, which should be the last of new furniture for awhile, so I needed to clean out the plastic storage bin that was serving as a nighttime platform for my glasses and electric mattress pad controller. I need to take a break to watch some Olympics and read (entirely coincidentally, I assure you) Olympos. And yes, "need" is the correct verb there. I am exhausted. Resting is not optional at this point.

[livejournal.com profile] timprov is showing off, doing things like going up and down the stairs at a normal pace whenever he feels like it. I am delighted.

One of you asked (yes, I'm still working through questions six weeks old) what my general attitude towards the picaresque novel is. I don't think I have a general one. Some "clever rogues" annoy me greatly, particularly if they aren't clever enough or if their roguery strikes me as assholery instead. Other such adventurers are clever enough to amuse me. So it's not a genre line that maps well to my enjoyment, basically.

"[info]timprov is showing off, doing things like going up and down the stairs at a normal pace whenever he feels like it. I am delighted."

Boy, do I empathize with that! For the last week, every time I've done anything at the energy level of a normal person (climbing stairs, walking down the street, buying groceries) I've felt like there should be a little arrow pointing to me and blinking "Look at her go!!"

I'm glad he's feeling better.

Two words for you: Olympic Hockey.

(The Canadian women's team just beat Italy 16-0. Oh yes, this is me laughing.)

Somewhat tricky assholes also annoy me. Probably because I often date them. I actually classify Odysseus in this category. "Clever trickster" my ass. After the whole Trojan horse thing, he got to be intolerable.

So what do you think of the famous contemporary Finnish master of picaresque novel Arto Paasilinna?

Even if I would like to suggest "The forest of hung foxes" or "The charming suicide" before "The year of hare", unless you would think about other languages besides English, "Year of the hare" it has to be.

As I am attempting to get rid of all the books I have, the English language "Year of the Hare" is available. Do you want it?

wow. sounds like a rough couple of weeks; I'm so glad things are looking more up beat. Also, I really admire your ability to keep working in the midst of weariness and emotional upset. and no, you don't have to respond to this! but you are in my thoughts.

p.s. my 8-year-old, after getting out of bed and walking 2 feet to the commode post-appendectomy, commented: "I was brave, wasn't I. I'm proud of myself." So you see, going up and down the stairs at a normal pace is a HUGE accomplishment. I appreciate that much more now than I would have a month ago.
