When you boil stout and molasses together, the sound they make is kind of like the sound of wind that comes in through the trees before rain.

I am not cleared to knead until nearly 11; it falls under "strenuous activity," according to the nurse at the ENH. So I'm making quickbread. Not-strenuous. Sulfurous, in this case, but that's not on the prohibited list.

Stout + molasses sounds like a winning combination. What will they be going into? And is there a recipe? (Note: I think you know by now that I am the kind of person to whom it is okay to say "No, there's no recipe, it's just something I throw together" if that happens to be the case.)

It is most of a recipe. It is a recipe if you can assume that you know roughly how much flour goes in a quickbread by texture. Guinness gingerbread (http://www.marissalingen.com/stoutginger.html). Mmmmm. I used up all the brown sugar, all the butter, and all the powdered ginger in it, but I did not run short.

That sounds very very nice. Have made note of it. Thank you.

Irish sodabread is also a nice non-kneading one.

Stout and molasses can also go into Guinness ginger cake, which appears to be essentially the same as [livejournal.com profile] mrissa's recipe but with less flour and more sugar.

And beer bread! I particularly enjoyed the Guinness bread with coarse Irish flour.

Yes, and fruit breads: apple bread, cranberry bread, banana bread, etc. We do lots of those in my family.

Oh! Was that the dark loafy gingerbread stuff that was near the tropical fruit at the wake?

That was lovely, and I was wondering where it came from.

Recipe?

Yah, came from me. I'm pretty sure -- I didn't see any other dark loaf gingerbread there. Here (http://www.marissalingen.com/stoutginger.html).
