The previous theme of heroes of the revolution around here seemed to be hot chocolate: lots of people who are dear to me have been sending me hot chocolate from here, there, and everywhere. Which is a darn good theme, really.

Yesterday, though, the theme for heroes of the revolution was caramel topping. [livejournal.com profile] mkille and [livejournal.com profile] onehipmama brought me an entire pan of pecan rolls from Wheatfield's on their way through Omaha. They asked if they could bring me anything from Omaha, and I said a pecan roll. And I got six, each the size of my head. Seriously, folks. [livejournal.com profile] timprov and I shared one of these things for breakfast, and neither of us went away hungry. And I have this to look forward to again!

And then [livejournal.com profile] ladysea made apple turnovers with caramel sauce and brought them over for dessert last evening. Caaaaaramel sauce. Heroes of the revolution, I'm telling you. I didn't do my PT until later so I could actually enjoy one and not be miserable about it. Worth the extra difficulties, definitely.

We had often talked of getting "hero of the revolution" chocolate medallions made, with caramel filling or nuts or something. Never has that seemed more appropriate.

Mmmmm... hungry!

I don't think I'll drive all the way to Omaha for Pecan Rolls, but I might take a jaunt to get the best cinnamon rolls in my neck of the woods... also the size of my head.

Excellent.

If you ever run out of hot chocolate or come near to having that happen, let me know. I, um, may also have also acquired hot chocolate for you (meant to give you for Christmas, but then didn't manage it, so it's still here).

Oh, don't mistake me: I am very much enjoying the different hot chocolates, comparison and contrast and like that.

Oh, I have no doubt. I'll get this to you eventually, but should there somehow be a shortage, I can expedite that or at least try to.

hot chocolate

what's your opinion on milk/soy milk/water for cocoa? is water better than soy milk? does real milk top all? or do you use water as a default?

do you steam your milk or soy milk, if that's what you use?

I have never tried soy milk in hot chocolate. I drink skim milk like it's going out of style -- in part, I realized recently, to regulate my hypoglycemia, but mostly because I like it. I use milk as a default in my hot chocolate, and when I taste that a restaurant has used water in theirs, I'm generally at least a little disappointed. On the other hand, I made hot chocolate with water approximately daily in college and never died of it, not even once.

For the average cup of cocoa, I just nuke the milk, but steaming is clearly far superior in result.
