mrissa: (question)

Well, I did manage to get some sleep last night, and then I went back to bed after breakfast, and the world is looking somewhat brighter for it. So of course I have turned to important things:

[Poll #1192143]

[livejournal.com profile] timprov and I used some of the down time while traveling for me to tell him the story of the Aesir noir novel, so that 1) he could ask intelligent questions and 2) I could see what bits I knew and didn't know I knew. We haven't done this for every book I've written, but when we have, the writing's gone a lot better. I have some ideas about Baldr's corpse, but I am still up for twiddling with that part.

Resurrection by gods of rival mythos to use against own mythos

I need to somehow scan for you and get you the sequence from Top Ten #7 which takes place in the Godz bar when they are investigating the murder of Balder. Our poor protagonists go through the whole business of questioning the various witnesses (all gods or demi-gods or that ilk) and only realize at the end that they've wasted an entire day because the whole sequence resets, Balder comes back to life again, etc, as if none of it had ever happened. (As they leave the bar in disgust Loki is saying, off-camera, "Hey, how about a nice friendly game of 'toss the mistletoe'?")

So the category I really wanted is "Doesn't matter, he'll be alive again tomorrow." But I could not resist the teenage Hel cultists because the idea amuses me so.

[livejournal.com profile] markgritter reads Top Ten.

But mine won't be alive again tomorrow, so I'm glad you like the teenage Hel cultists. They will be around whether or not they thief Baldr's corpse.

First it was given to Madame Tussaud, but it was stolen from her waxworks by teenage Hel cultists who threw it into Ginnunga Gap. Fenrir and Nidhogg found it there and ate it, burning the bits they didn't think would be tasty. His wife, ring, horse, and that one dwarf happened along and were thrown onto the bonfire a.k.a bonefire too. The ashes and bits were buried in a mound after the fire died down.

You know, I suppose if I'd ever thought about it, I would have said that all the bits of Baldr were supposed to be tasty. But I don't think that's actually at all canonical.

Well, the bits themselves could be tasty and Fenrir and Nidhogg could still not think they were going to be tasty. Then they wouldn't even try those bits, and they'd never find out they were wrong.

Cut into thirteen pieces and thrown into a convenient ocean; Freya manages to recover most of the pieces with the help of Ægir's daughters, but cannot find his phallus, so she has to get the dvergar to make him a new one. Rumors circulate that Jormungand ate the original.

... what syncretism?

According to one theory, Baldr is brought back as Heimdal, as they're never in the same storyline.

Carbonite? what's that?

Frozen in a large block of ice, in a castle in Niflheim. Guarded or not as you choose. If actually in Niflhel, would the spirit of Baldr be allowed to guard his own body until after Ragnarök? might make him a bit morose.

The spirit of Baldr will be -- oh, trust me -- busy.

Raised on the third day? Nah, too hokey. How about given to a three-star restaurant. One that caters to such as Fenrir and Nidhogg.
