Nevil Shute's books are all independent, but I think the ones you're likely to enjoy most would be _Trustee From The Toolroom_ and _Legacy_ (also called _A Town Like Alice_, though I think _Legacy_ was a better title.) When I started reading Shute, I was 12 and didn't notice his economic ideology...but now it takes a deliberate effort to look past it. I think it's worth it, though.
