markgritter and I went out for a dinner date at Pizza Biga. (Verdict: meh.) While we were out, we collectively consumed five pieces of pizza, two glasses of wine, and two scoops of ice cream. Reasonable. But what we brought home was:
seven pieces of pizza
two loaves of chocolate bread, now sliced and stuck in the freezer, one of which will go with me to Montreal for emergency consumption in my hotel room
one chocolate bun
two scones
three pints of ice cream (banana, Guinness with dark-chocolate-covered organic equivalents to Rice Krispies, and blueberry-buttermilk)
one pint of sorbet (raspberry-lime)
twelve servings of dog treat
birthday present for a certain person who turns 14 next week
birthday and anniversary cards for the next month

And also I did not fall on my head. (markgritter was of no small assistance in this achievement, as in all the others.) So I think that counts as a pretty good haul, considering that we didn't go out with the expectation/intention of getting most of it.

Some days you take what you can get. But on the days when what you can get includes Turtle Bread's chocolate bread and Pumphouse Creamery's blueberry-buttermilk ice cream, this is a great deal less of a hardship.

Wrt chocolate bread: Premiere Moisson's is quite good, and they have a shop in the intercity railroad station (Bonaventure). Should you use that loaf up early in the week, or such.

Indeed, I had planned on relying heavily on frequent visitors like you or permanent residents for help in finding and getting to such places.

Is that pain au chocolat, though? Because pain au chocolate, while a wonderful thing and a perfectly plausible purchase for me when I'm in Montreal, is not what I mean here.

Oh, I must add this to my list of things to try in this lifetime. I simply must. I would even put up with my extended family if it meant a trip to MN to try this.

Alas, the various Guinness-flavored ice creams are only an occasional feature, so you would have to get your timing just right.

Previous Guinness-related flavor had toffee in it instead; is that better or worse?

It is bread with chocolate chunks baked in it; when I think pain au chocolat I tend to think of the chocolate croissants and brioche I can get at a patisserie, with the chocolate all in the middle and dough baked around, rather than chocolate chunks throughout.

Ah. This bread has both chocolate chunks throughout and cocoa in the dough. It is Nice. It is not the only nice thing that can be done with bread and chocolate, though, so we will see about options when I get to Montreal.

That sounds equally good to me. But between an unabashed love of ice cream (proudly passed down from previous generations) and an unabashed love of Guinness (proudly acquired while living on my own), I really have no chance no matter what extra bits are in it; I'm a goner.

Well, while markgritter is correct that the Guinness flavors appear at irregular intervals, other very excellent sorts of ice cream are always there, so if you're in Mpls for some other reason and have time for ice cream, it's worth a go. (And we are pretty much always up for taking people to Pumphouse, especially if we're given enough warning not to be busy with something else.)
