Dear teenage neighbors I never liked very much anyway,

Thank you so much for sharing your music collection with us! Aren't you sweet. But I feel that someone should tell you -- ideally before you move out of your parents' house, may that occasion not be long in coming -- that good music contains noises that are neither "thump" nor "oontz-oontz."

It's only 9ish now, so you are merely annoying. Let's try to keep it on the correct side of that line, shall we?

Nolove,

And I always think this problem is an inner-city one.

I am sorry for your pain for you, but also because it makes me feel like there is NOWHERE TO HIDE.

It's better here than it was when we lived in an apartment: if our neighbors have an ordinary party, we have to be at the windows on the correct side of the house to hear them -- that is, it's fairly easy not to. This one is loud enough to overcome the suburban gap. Uff da.

Also they have started a bonfire. Joy. I have not yet steeled myself to call the police on bonfire-burners here, even though it's illegal within Eagan city limits, but I probably should; it really bothers me and is, as I mentioned, not legal.

::lends Marissa the secret laser action cane::

Takes out thumps and their teenaged owners at 300 yards.

Really. It's been tested.

Here's hoping for rain to stop the party and save your sanity.

It also goes with this:
Dear people in the car 20 yards away;

Is there any reason that the music in your car should be create minor tremors of bassy rythm eminating through mine?

They feared your stereo might be broken! They were just the giving types!

It turned out my reaction to the neighbors did not change when later in the night they switched to the BoDeans, who do have noises in their songs that are not "thump" or "oontz-oontz," but who are apparently well enough known to the teenager neighbors that they feel the need to holler, "No, no, no!" along with the chorus of "Still the Night." I agreed: no, no, no!

However, dealing with inconsiderate teenaged neighbors may be more satisfying when the proceedings include the sound "thump." Not sure about "oontz-oontz" in that case.

Thank you

I lol'd. A lot. I used to live next to an apartment building filled with people who loved to blast Spanish polka. I called it the oompa oompa noise.

It was really astonishing the first time we came upon Spanish polka at top volume. [livejournal.com profile] timprov and I were going for a hike in the hills near our apartment in Hayward, CA, and we pulled up next to a car filled with Mexican-American teenagers. With our own car doors closed, we could only hear the bass, so when we opened the car doors and heard accordion music, we were quite startled.

They call me "Thumper."

=v= I kinda like the thumps, but I totally agree with you about the oontz-oontz.

I am not opposed to music with a strong bass beat. I am opposed to music whose strong bass beat is imposed upon the unwilling, and to music with no other features.

I consider refraining from making them make any noises like "oontz" part of my good deed set for the week.
