I pass this link along in case of interest: [livejournal.com profile] cloudscudding is hiring for a short-term data-entry position here in the Cities. If you're efficient and looking for work to tide you until something longer-term comes along, head on over there to give it a look.

Anyone who has any suggestions for food near the Cedar Cultural Center could maybe pass them along. The sort of person who was going to Nordic Roots this weekend might appreciate that.

We're all kind of dragging around here today: clinic PT for me, dentist for [livejournal.com profile] markgritter, and dealing with ongoing cruddiness in various directions. I have a certain amount of rose-colored find-the-joy-in-each-day to my character, but sometimes the exciting kinds of joy don't seem all that likely, and a cup of hot chocolate after PT is what you're going to get in that direction. And that's okay, too; we have a lot of good hot chocolate here.

Just a couple of blocks on the other side of the bridge, there's Jewel of India. (http://jewelofindia.net/) They cater the Cedar, but the food is much better fresh at the restaurant.

I'm partial to the Town Hall Brewery (http://www.townhallbrewery.com/), though the food is not quite as interesting as the beer.

Thanks for the recs! We had a perfectly awful experience with Town Hall Brewery the one time we went (they were out of half the menu, and it was the half I was willing to eat), but maybe I should give them another look if I'm going to be in the area anyway.

Yikes! I've never had that bad of a food experience there! For an alternative, I know that the Nomad World Pub is just a couple of blocks in the other direction from the Cedar, but I have no idea whether they have food.

We've had nice meals at K-Wok, though it looks (see Google) as if some other people have not. They're pretty close.

I'm not sure what the tiny Korean place right next door became; I think it's a restaurant of some sort still.

And the Red Sea is quite close, too (Ethiopian).

Kwong Tung Noodle Factory on the NW corner of Cedar and Riverside has Chinese baked goods, including BBQ pork buns and curried beef buns that they will heat for you. Lots of treats not available other places. When I was last there they closed at 6:00pm on week days.

The rest of my information may be out of date. I used to commute home through that corner every day, but I've been gone for three years. There was a really good hole-in-the-wall sandwich shop called the Wienery on the W side of Cedar that makes good chicken sandwiches and Chicago hot dogs. The Red Sea makes good Middle Eastern food. There is a pho place on Riverside a half block east of Cedar that Elise likes, but I've never tried. There are lots of restaurants in the two block area right around the Cedar.

I think you mean the Blue Nile, on Cedar and Franklin. Which does make very good Ethiopian food.

The info on the web classified Red Sea as Ethiopian. Which fits with my not having been there, since I don't like Ethiopian food.

This seems pretty definitive: http://www.ethiopianrestaurant.com/minnesota/redsea.html; and also this http://www.redseaclub.com/redsea/recipy.html

I liked the Korean place right next store to the Cedar. I loved their soups. Keep in mind the soup may need to shared.

I agree hot chocolate can cure many duldrums.

I've been to The Red Sea. It does indeed serve Ethiopian food, and I liked the vegetarian options very, very much. I think Lydy liked the meat stuff the time we were there, too.

Alas, I have no food recommendations near the Cedar, but perhaps the knowledge that there will be a couple more people that you know at Nordic Roots this weekend will be cheering. (i.e., [livejournal.com profile] cowfan and myself will be there.)

I haven't been to K-Wok for several years, but I liked all the meals I had there.

That is indeed cheering. [livejournal.com profile] hypatia_j and I will keep an eye out for you there. (If [livejournal.com profile] hypatia_j knows you, it'll be easier.)

Thanks. I like Ethiopian, even if you don't.

I'm glad you mentioned that the Wienery serves non-wiener items; I am not much for hot dogs.

I hadn't known [livejournal.com profile] hypatia_j by LJ handle, but upon checking the profile, I see that [livejournal.com profile] hypatia_j and I do know each other.

It was a year ago since I have been in the area so I am taking a moment to peruse

http://www.cedarriverside.com/listings.html

I find a listing for Korea House at 414 1/2 Cedar St so I figure then the answer is probably.
