mrissa: (getting by)

I fell again early this morning, and something in my neck and right shoulder decided to feel really evil. My chiropractor got me in first thing, but that just means that the bits are all in place. There's still a pulled muscle in my neck and right shoulder, which means minimal typing for me. Those of you who know me will be startled to hear that I agreed to take a second Advil. (Granted, it was four and a half hours after the first Advil. But still.)

And lying down with the vertigo is not a long-term option more than once a day (from about 10:30 p.m. to about 6:00 a.m.), so here we are with pillows and...stuff. I already have plenty of advice/suggestions, so going through some of those should take awhile, and I might even feel better by the end.

You know, this can stop any time now. I am ready. My character is as built as this is going to build it.

Ow ow ow. I'm so sorry. I once pulled a muscle in the left neck and shoulder area, and learned in quite the wrong way what all it was connected to. Singing "Them Bones" didn't seem quite right, and "Them Muscles" doesn't scan.

I now dig this better than before. I remain on the list of those who could happily have not had any idea of how unpleasant it is. :/

Your character is awesome. As indeed are many of your characters.

I add my voice to the chorus saying that this can be done now.

"The knee bone's connected to the *beat* wrist bone, the wrist bone's connected to the *beat* rib bone..."

How many of us have to agree that you can be done now before the universe agrees? Is there a petition somewhere that needs a certain number of signatures? I'd sign it!

I don't know if the mental image will amuse you like it did me, but I had a vision of Mris' Character posing and flexing its beefy Olympic-weightlifter muscles.

Oh, didn't you know? This isn't the character building excercise; it's the canonization exam.

Saying I'm sorry isn't going to change anything, though I am sorry and if I could take it away now, I would. I truly think this has progressed far beyond character building and well into testing in the grand tradition of Job.

So no false good cheer or reassurances this will be over someday, though it will. Right now this flat out sucks and right now is what you've got. I wish right now was better.

I'm going to go kick something in your honor. Maybe twice.

That sure does suck. If you've resorted to Advil I expect you've already tried a hot pad and an ice pad? (Z's A has a toy eel just too short to be a neck support. It has a very eager expression though.)

I think the "character building" meme is actively unhelpful for long term chronic problems. I had great difficulty remaining polite to someone after he informed me that the pain was teaching me something. Indeed it was, and after the first year, or the first three or four years anyway, it wasn't teaching me anything new. It's not a lesson, it's not a test, it's not character building, it just is what it is. Which sucks, of course.

So, if you want my advice, never write a book all in present tense.

That is good advice.

(And yes, we have ice packs and a flax-stuffed whatsit that goes in the microwave and then around my neck, lying on my shoulders heavily enough to keep me from letting them tense up; hurrah for the flax-stuffed whatsit.)
