oops, I wrote the Ben January rec above before reading these. He is rather fearsomely competent, but "big and strong" is somewhat tempered by the fact that this makes him seem a threat to many whites and that he can always be overcome by greater numbers - who, in those circumstances, are almost always happy to pile on.
