Guess what?

I wrote a book! Again, I mean.

Sampo: 124,500 words in rough draft form. 639 pages in manuscript format. Longest thing I've ever written (especially if you consider that it goes with Thermionic Night, which is almost as long; I once considered them one book). I swear I'm writing a children's book next. And some short stories. Things that fit in my head in their entirety.

It is, I will swear to you as its fond mommy, a freakin' disaster. But it's my freakin' disaster, and revisions are for cleaning up disasters, right? The end of a draft always makes me optimistic. Exuberant, even. Because I know I can do this part. I've got something to work with. I have a Chapter 52; now it's just a matter of making it a good Chapter 52.

Not right away, of course. First I take some time off and celebrate and get a little mental distance. And sleep past 5:30 without waking up, one hopes.

Wheeee! Book book book book book!

Excuse me. I'm going to do my book-finishing dance now.

I believe it will be bicranial even when revised. But that's okay, because it's my book!

Excellent. *bounce* The celebratory Michael Sowa pig flies over the horizon in your honour. [ Now that I come to write that down, it looks like something from the Monty Python Hungarian phrasebook. ]

Indeed; I'm not sure my Berlitz Finnish phrase book can help me with that one. Errr... sianliha is pork...and lento is fly....

I was thinking "book book book book book!" too, because I tend to say things like that while bouncing up and down while excited. (I use an exercise ball for an office chair. Bouncing is frequent.) Then I realized that if I had been talking out loud, I'd have looked and sounded like a demented chicken.

But still and anyway, Book! Mazel tov!

I don't suppose anyone is recording that book-finishing dance for posterity, are they?

Yay, book! Again!

Yes, I have often proclaimed myself a literate chicken ("book book book"). I am also a grammatical owl ("To whom, to whom?").

No, nobody was even witnessing the book-finishing dance. But you know what? I will write another book at some point and dance again.

When I sense that time is drawing near again, I am sending a video camera to your house.

It will not be addressed to you. :)

Yeah!

It's a standard over on rec.arts.sf.fandom, but it didn't look like anybody had introduced it in this thread yet, so I thought I'd be the one.

Congratulations! (I did not dance. I merely giggled my way up the stairs.)

Just so you know, if I were to come across a fantasy involving Finnish vacuum-tube computer technology, I would have no choice but to buy and read it immediately. So I'm very happy that that day is coming ever closer to reality...

[livejournal.com profile] markgritter and I went out for supper. Upon the suggestion of another Mark, I had Not the Mousse for dessert. Groaaaan. It was peach bread pudding with caramel sauce, and it was good, and the leftovers are in the fridge.

Very, very slowly closer to reality. But still, some is better than none.

Mrissas are all about leftovers. The only thing better than having enough dinner left over for 2 more meals is having enough dessert left over to go with it.
