mrissa: (think so do ya?)

It is not a good sign when a book I'm reading makes me eye Einstein & Oppenheimer on my to-read pile and think, "Next I will read a book with sensible people in it."

Have you read Stargirl yet? 'cause if not, you should.

"What would you think she meant if she said she hadn't read Stargirl yet?"

Okay, no, sorry, not everything is a High Fidelity reference, I seriously haven't read Stargirl. I just put it on my library list.

Oh I have this reaction to all kinds of books. I think my Idiot Plot (in the rigid sense that the plot wouldn't be possible if the characters weren't being idiots) tolerance is dwindling as I age.

Of course, people DO occasionally actually act like idiots, as is evidenced by the fact that the book you're discussing could well be non-fiction ....

This was less "idiot" than "total wanker." Really, "wanker" is the most couth and polite word I can find for this character. All the other words I can think of are worse.

Wow. I think I do not wish to read this book.

I have just realised that I managed to put this comment in entirely the wrong place. Oops!

In case it's not obvious from context, it's supposed to follow the comment where you mention that the most polite term you can think of for a particular character is one that is not exactly something I'd use in front of my parents.

Oh good! While there were things in the summary of Stargirl that might put some people off, it didn't seem to be extreme enough to be worth explicitly noting without further explanation. This way makes a lot more sense.
