Re Robert Barnard: I really liked his two mysteries featuring Mozart as the sleuth. The character (and the setting) makes the books. (_Too many notes, Mr. Mozart_ and _Dead, Mr. Mozart_ by Robert Barnard writing as Bernard Bastable).

Anything else I've read by him I don't think I finished: very unmemorable.

Re _The Drowning City_: I'm partway through it and really enjoying it so far.
