A lot of people are doing it, a lot of people are doing it badly, and this doesn't give me the urge to step in and show them how it's done, it gives me the urge to back away quietly and do something different.

That pretty much sums up my feeling about the historiography of WW2 (and of the American Civil War, for that matter).

There is one WW2-centric history book that I've recently that I'm recommending to people as a quality history: Bloodlands: Europe Between Hitler and Stalin. It's not at all a pleasant book, but I think it's a very necessary one.
