As a Canadian, I don't think a book exploring the role of the War of 1812 in building Canadian national identity is weird at all: firstly because the war of 1812 is much more of a Thing here than in the States, and secondly because Canadian historiography is kind of preoccupied with national identity.
But Canadian history isn't any more likely to take the First Nations seriously than anyone else, so that might be a cool thing for me to check out.
