On the other hand, he's using such an idiosyncratic definition of science fiction that basically no one else ever does it right, and at that point, sorry, dude, give it up. It is, in fact, science fiction. It can also be fantasy.
I am pretty sure it is not the kind of epic fantasy Macey was looking for, but she can throw it in the hopper and judge for herself if she likes.
