Several people on my friendslist are playing the "I'll list my favorite TV shows and you guess which was my favorite character on each" game. I don't like enough TV shows to make this worthwhile, but I just wanted to say: I will continue to guess Ivanova any time somebody lists Babylon 5 as a favorite show until someone agrees with me about how Ivanova is the wonderful, clearly superior, very much best character ever ever ever on that show. So someone might as well speak up now and save everyone else the bother.

See also: Chekhov, Tasha Yar, Miles O'Brien, Sideshow Bob, Franklin Sherman, Ken Wossname [whoops, not Nick, Nick is the lame boyfriend], and Bender.

Huh. So maybe I have some TV opinions after all.

"Ivanova is always right. I will listen to Ivanova. I will not ignore Ivanova's recommendations. Ivanova is God. And, if this ever happens again, Ivanova will personally rip your lungs out! Babylon control out."

Yes... and of course there is Zathros.

Zathros wouldn't be my second favorite, either.

Somehow Zathros has gotten mixed up with a Hallmark card about Paco in my head, so he's saying, "So you will not go to Omaha with Zathros? Zathros could show you many things, but Zathros will not beg." Riiiiiighty then.

His character had awesome lines, though.

Whenever I break something around here (happens far to often) my first response is, "Zathras can never have anything nice." )

I won't say that G'Kar has no appeal. But if I had to pick a second favorite character, it would not be G'Kar.

Bester.

Because I am not a nice person.

You are not required to be a nice person, either. We can be non-nice together.

I just started watching B5. Saw the first episode last night.

I could be persuaded to like Ivanova the best. ;)

Because she is the best, is why.

I did like what I saw in the first episode. So I'll be willing to say that she's my provisional favorite right now. ;)

So you haven't been watching the new Battlestar Galactica?

It was on in my presence I think twice. I was perfectly able to glance away at any given moment of it and go back to a book I wasn't particularly into. That seemed like a Sign.

Truly, the only one of the shows referenced I kept up with while it was on was "Freaks and Geeks." (BRILLIANT casting. Absolutely brilliant.) I'm really bad at watching TV. I was lying around being sick Friday night, and I looked at the clock, saw that it was 8:58, saw that "Monk" was coming on, recalled that I like "Monk," and still went, "Meh."

Fair enough. But I think you missed something really good.
(It'll probably be on in repeats so you can probably catch it again if you decide you want to.)

Ivanova is my favorite B-5 character too. By far, far, far and away.

That said, I really adore BSG. But I get the Sweetie Noodge to watch it, from somebody whom I don't get to go out with much for health reasons, so that's different. Left on my own, I too will just say Meh. And I don't tape stuff because it's weird to watch it when it's not really on. I think this is a defense mechanism.

I liked BSG, but just sort of lost track after the first few episodes. Maybe I'll catch it when it comes 'round on the guitar.

(I take smug responsibility for all Arlo Guthrie references this man makes. In fact, if it's a musical reference from after 1960, odds are very good it's my fault and [livejournal.com profile] timprov's.)

Taping stuff requires me to want to watch it almost more than sitting down at a specific time.

TiVo requires me to want to watch TV in general, as a category, the way I want to bake things or read or write books. That just doesn't happen most of the time when I'm well (and it's sporadic even when I'm ill).

I can get behind you on Chekhov. I'm not sure why, but I've always liked the guy.

There were so many good characters, though! I don't know if I could pick a favorite. Many characters were my favorite at one time or another.

My favoriteS are:
Ivanova
Garibaldi
Leneer (sp?)
G'Kar
Londo

I think Lennier?

ivanova is in fact the best character ever, but vir has the best quote on the show.

Vir: "I'd like to live just long enough to be there when they cut off your head and stick it on a pike, as a warning to the next ten generations that some favours come with too high a price. I want to look up into your lifeless eyes and wave, like this. Can you and your associates arrange that for me, Mr. Morden?"

Date: 2005-04-06 03:16 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] mrissa.livejournal.com
And it's an even better quote because it's Vir who says it. If it was someone less generally fussy, someone who had pretensions of general ass-kicking, it would be a kind of a good quote but nothing special. But from Vir in the context of the rest of the series of Vir, it just rocks.

Ivanova isn't my favorite. You can guess who is if you want, or I can just tell you, or you might be bored with this by now.

Chekhov, for "nuhlear wessels." Scotty for everything else, in my humble opinion. O'Brien is cool, too.
