Dear birds:

I realize that it's spring and you would like to sing to greet the sun. That being the case, can you wait until sometime near sunrise? When [livejournal.com profile] markgritter is arriving at the airport, I do not show up shouting, "HI MARK! HI MARK! HI MARK!" (or, probably more accurately for birds this time of year, "TIME TO SCREW! TIME TO SCREW!") two hours in advance. Or even when he's arriving, really. Take a note. AND STOP WAKING ME UP.

Hugs and kisses,
M'ris

Dear birds,

All individuals disregarding M'ris will be shipped to Massachusetts for immediate processing into pies.

Yours truly,
Mark K.

eeep!

Are you a light sleeper?

I have two sleep modes. Sometimes I sleep like the very dead. Other times things can wake me fairly easily. Almost anything after 4:00 a.m. falls into the "wake me easily" mode. But we have a ton of very loud birds in the wooded area behind our house, and we have an insane woodpecker (who tries to peck metal and plastic). Yarg.

And we really can't close the windows right now, because it's too hot for that and too cold for AC.

It's a good thing that you shout neither of those comments at the airport, since I'm pretty sure Homeland Security would want to talk to you after that.

I'm just imagining a tree full of birds holding those signs the limo drivers have to show who they're waiting for.

I hate when the birds wake me up. It was really bad at my old house. There were some that would fly over my house all the time. I think they were called DC-10s

We have planes going overhead, too, but they aren't shrill, and they're year-round.

What you said. We don't need to hear "deedle-deedle-deedle" at 5 a.m.

*dies laughing*

I sooo know how you feel. There is a large olive tree right outside my bedroom window. It's like match.com for birds.

Hee! I remember birds that started noise when we were going to sleep - at one am, but this way it is worse.

A long time ago, Martin used to live with Steve and Reen in a big house way out in Blaine that came with chickens included. One night Martin and I came out to his house about 3:00am, way before dawn, and the roosters were crowing as we got out of the car. I explained to Martin that crowing all night was a early symptom of Neck Spasms. This is type of seizure disorder, which can become so severe that afflicted birds actually break their own necks, in a way that can look to the layperson almost as though someone had wrung it. I am very sorry to learn that it has spread to the wild bird population. Especially since there is some indication that it's communicable to humans, though of course the warning symptoms in the early stages are quite different.

I had actually heard of Neck Spasms! I just was not a competent enough ornithologist to make the diagnosis myself. Well. This explains much.

I glad to learn the efforts to raise public awareness of this poorly known and often misdiagnosed condition are having some effect. Sadly, the current state of medical science holds out little hope for a cure.

Oh. Sorry 'bout that, won't happen again.

It's going to take me awhile to rebuild trust with you, Birds.
