One rejection. Nothing else. It's not just that I feel like nothing is happening: I have a total of three rejections for the month of April. Three. Even in March (when it still felt like nothing was happening) I had eleven. I need to remind myself that starting new projects is not the way to feel like things are happening, it's just the way to make myself nuts. But still: deep sighs. No...motion...on any front.

(I bought a little mat to put the dog's dishes on. We have no dog. This does not count as progress towards a dog. Alas. But it's sturdy denim and canvas, washable, and it says, "good dog." So there you have that.

Oh, I do have puppy update, actually: the breeder called and said the puppies were born Monday, that all dogs concerned were safe and healthy, and that there's a little silver-beige pup we could come meet when she's a bit older. So we'll see about that.)

I think I have something to say about the fictionalized autobiography I read earlier today, but right now it's time to make cookies and get the house into some semblance of order.

Gosh. My LJ reading has been spotty. Puppy.

My sister is up this weekend and my niece, and we were just talking about Cole yesterday aka the demon pup, and how he was such furrball. It's hard for me to believe he turns 3 in June, and Rosie eight now.

I've wanted a puppy for a long time, but we were in an apartment, and then the timing was just never right. Now it might be. I'm not sure. We're trying to go through a known breeder who treats the dogs right and is more interested in temperament and intelligence than some superficial appearance thing.

Yes, about three months after we got the house, and as soon as I knew I could handle the house bills, or at least with enough luck we've always managed, we went to the shelter and brought Rosie home. I learned a lot from Rose, and she'll always be special to me; but, when I was ready to add a pup, I did the same.

My qualifications for a breeder had as much to do with character as pedigree, more, and Cole is wonderful.

And Cindy too, when he was lost last November she came right over and drove around in the rain all night looking from him as I walked. I was completely amazed; but when I tried to thank her she hand-waved me off, saying that the last time one of her dogs (dogs she had sold to people) was lost, she drove five hours up to Canada before she could even start looking.

She hand picked Cole as the pup she thought would best fit with me. I am pretty shy and quiet in RL, and he is lively and it works awfully well. I think even in the breeding world, she is pretty usual; but, I may be doing them a disservice. There's a couple of places that I have found people that are just pretty wonderful, some of the online frex, and it reminds me a bit of that, the little I know of the people in both places.

But as happy as I am with my dogs, I wouldn't try to encourage anyone else because it isn't for everyone, or even some people all the time, as you said timing matters, and I _am_ sorry I am babbling here! Very best wishes with yours.

The breeder we've been talking to quizzed me extensively about how I knew the people who had given me their name and what my experience with dogs was. She is apparently not willing to give up her puppies to just anybody, and she understood my saying that I would have to meet the puppy to see whether or not we belonged together.

One of our relatives who loves her dog thinks everybody should have one, and I really don't. I think they're like kids that way: people who don't want them really shouldn't have them, and timing can make all the difference for everyone concerned.

That's exactly the type of thing, yes. What kind of dog are you thinking about?

One of our relatives who loves her dog thinks everybody should have one, and I really don't.

Definitely not. I think the shelters will attest to this.

I think they're like kids that way: people who don't want them really shouldn't have them, and timing can make all the difference for everyone concerned.

I do see it as a similar although in places different type of commitment. And time is an angle there also in the likely length of it. I don't think I view the commitment to the dogs too much differently, it has to do with needs also. Benni is just likely to have me longer.

But even were it not impolite, I would be the last person to ever ask someone when they were going to have children.

My last dog was a toy poodle, and we're looking at toy and miniature poodles now. Our vet taught us how to pick the ones that aren't yappy, and they're extremely bright and not as allergenic as many dogs. (And [livejournal.com profile] markgritter and [livejournal.com profile] timprov really aren't interested in having a large dog in the house, so standard poodles are right out.)

One of my Grans had toy poodles, and they were bright, and not yappy, and a lot of fun.

Our vet mentioned last year that allergies are now his most common cases in the summer. They are a whole lot of no fun judging by Rose's problems and kees are prone to them. We seem to have a handle now but it's a good thing to check out before deciding.

Good luck with this, and I will look forward to hearing about the puppy meet when that apts.

You did, but you didn't mention your travel dates. We're not sure when we're heading to Omaha, but if it's exactly the wrong time, we'll see you in GR for Matt's graduation anyway.

I should proof read

I think even in the breeding world, she is pretty usual

That should read "unusual."
