I was listening to [livejournal.com profile] timprov's mother's copy of "Evita" in the car before giving it back to her, and while there are lots of lines that strike me (and sometimes make me swear at Tim Rice for various reasons), the one that hit me this time was, "You'll get by; you always have before."

I think I write adult fiction so that I can have main characters for whom that's true.

I think I write YAs so I can have main characters for whom it's not.

Overly simplistic distinction, not applicable to all of either genre? Sure. And yet.

Some health issues today, but a better day than yesterday in several directions, even with the Howls Of The Damned currently issuing from the kennel. I'm exhausted but happy going to bed; the prospect of seeing [livejournal.com profile] gaaldine, [livejournal.com profile] the_overqual, [livejournal.com profile] porphyrin, and Roo tomorrow makes me happy, and I have no trouble keeping it together. And the health issues will be Dealt With, So There; or at least I'll try.

Tomorrow: more stuff. So okay then.

Evita! At one point I had the entire opera(?) memorized.

"You'll get by, you always have, before." I've always thought that line was painfully appropriate. Personally, I like Tim Rice. I haven't liked ALW near so much after they split. (JC Superstar was a religious experience.)

Which version of Evita were you listening to? I'm aware of three, but I only own one, my personal favorite. That's the one done by the LSO with Julie Covington in the title role. I didn't like the stage play recording, with Patti Labelle. I'm told I should really give the Madonna version another chance. I've hated Madonna with a white hot passion since "Like a Virgin", but still that production gets good reports.

This is the Madonna version. I dislike Madonna, but before this musical I was just contemptuous of her. Now I am angry: she can do musical theater! She can! And she can do it well! So why the hell is she wandering around doing other things instead of reviving musical theater for me? WHY???

I haven't liked Tim Rice near so much after they split. Elton John? I mean, come on.

Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Weber are up there with Mel Brooks and Gene Wilder on the People Who Should Get Back Together, Dammit list for me.

Friends of mine tend to get cancer, so you should definitely have everything checked. I don't know if it applies to internet friends, but you can't be too careful!

(In all seriousness, it sounds like your poor appetite could be a symptom, not the primary problem. It would be great if a doc could find a reason and get you on some treatment for it. Of course, the best medicine for poor appetite all by itself is marijuana, and you know how problematic that is...;-)

Umm. I'll pretend I don't like you until I'm done with doctor stuff, then!

It may not work across state borders. My husband accuses me of killing people. I have to remind him that no one has died, yet!
