One rejection, one acceptance. So okay then.

I ran out of Mrissa at around 8:00 last night, and I'm not sure I have enough for all of today, either, so if you know where to get more Mrissa, it might be a good birthday present. I don't usually angle for birthday presents, but in this case I'll make an exception.

Things are clearly getting better with Ista, although she's still a lot of work, as puppies are. No one had to clean up after her yesterday, which is clear progress. Also [livejournal.com profile] porphyrin and Mike and Roo brought her The Best Toy Ever (So Far), a miniature rawhide shoe. Oh, the chewing and the chewing and the chewing. Happy puppy.

I read a bunch of things yesterday and am now on Mary Gentle's Cartomancy, which starts with a novella from the Ash universe, so okay then; could be worse.

I'm not going to have a birthday cake on my actual birthday. I'm going to want to serve cake at the party on Saturday, and having cake on Tuesday lasting until Saturday to serve to guests is nasty, and I do not have the energy to make two cakes. So no birthday cake for me. If I have time and energy, I will make myself muffins or scones, since I love breakfast things and everyone ought to have something good for their birthday. But I don't know about the time-and-energy thing. We'll see. Some presents have arrived, so there will be birthdaying even without cake and even with the fence man coming and puppyssori inconveniently timed in the evening.

I have looked and looked, even unto opening up boxes in the attic, and I do not appear to have any Mrissa on hand to send you. I'll keep hunting, though, and if I come across any I will send it post-haste.

There are so many applications for Mrissa that attic boxes are a rare location for any at all: usually people find a use for Mrissa elsewhere in the house before they get to the packing-away stage.

I ordered fresh Mrissa for you from Amazon.com. It will arrive in a few days' time. Until then, feel free to borrow some Markgritter or some Timprov. I'm sure they won't mind.

I've always liked having the celebration be a bit disjunct from the actual day of the birthday. (You may make a lot of threatening noises now, or merely roll your eyes, if there is not enough Mrissa for energetic gestures.) Then the birthday is a have-it-both-ways day -- one can do ordinary and even virtuous things, but at any moment one may also say, "I don't have to do that, it's MY BIRTHDAY." And one can have extra chocolate.

This is why we have multiple birthday days, yes.

And don't think for a moment that I'll go without dessert on my birthday just because I won't have cake on my birthday.

Also don't think I've forgotten your birthday because I haven't, and not just because the other half of your present is still in the give-it-back basket.
