Last night I dreamed that my ENT sent me to Vlad Taltos. She wanted to rule out both witchcraft and sorcery. Vlad asked more interesting questions than my actual medical personnel. When I told [livejournal.com profile] timprov this before he went to bed, he offered to find a gold chain and whack me with it a couple of times if it would make me feel better. Generous guy, the [livejournal.com profile] timprov.

That is terribly good-natured of him. Out of curiosity, what did Vlad look like in your dream? I've always wondered, and for some reason the cover illustrations don't seem right to me at all.

Like [livejournal.com profile] skzbrust, but different. Like someone you could mistake for Steven from across a large room, but then get a few steps closer and realize was not, in fact, him, and the closer you get, the more you wonder how on earth you could have thought it was him.

Well, if your problem was anything to do with witchraft, an assassination attempt, or a reaction to Fenarian food, that would be a brilliant idea. Anywhere else... really, come to think of it, on any other subject we've seen him engage with Vlad's thick as two short planks, so on balance I think probably not for the best. [ There's one small part of me that's hoping against hope to some day read Vlad having to admit "Nope, I haven't got the first clue about Jhegaalalords... " ]

I remember thinking that I had no evidence that the interesting questions he was asking were actually useful for diagnosing witchcraft, that he could easily have just been messing with me. Still, on the other hand, none of my waking doctors have had much luck, so what harm?

It's more likely to be a lack of Fenarian food. If I wasn't feeling horribly myself I'd do something about it.

Sadly, nothing specific.

From a recent article in the New Scientist about anosmia and, of all things, the importance of nasal mucus in regulating the sense of smell - http://www.tasteandsmell.com/clinic.htm . Copied from the site, "Many of you may have gone to your local doctor or to medical specialists who may have examined you and found no specific pathology. You may have had X-rays, CT scans, or MRIs which did not show any problem. You may have been told that there was nothing wrong with you and that if you wait the symptoms will disappear. You may have also been told that there was nothing medically that could be done for you. Since most physicians are unfamiliar with these problems these responses are not uncommon. "

Dear anonymous person:

I did read that, but this is not anosmia, and dysosmia is not the only symptom I have. However, I'll ask the ENT if there's a more specialized professional I should see if she doesn't have any ideas of her own.
