The good: I sold a story just now! Dark Wisdom wants "A Nose for Spirits," one of my rare dark stories. (It's a ghost story. I would describe it as dark fantasy rather than horror, but this may be my prejudice.) So yay! A scent-related story sale!

The bad: the ENT verified that I'm smelling things correctly most of the time and that nothing appears to be wrong with my sinuses/nose/etc. This is what we suspected, but we hoped she might have some insight into where to go next. She doesn't. So we have some thinking and some talking to do around here, and some more thinking. She made me take a 40-question scratch-and-sniff test. Uff da. That was no fun: flat, fake smells, bleh. I got three wrong, and she went back to see if there was a pattern, smelled them herself, and decided that I was more right than the test book, in her opinion. So.

The ugly: I tried on a pair of knee-high lace-up high-heeled girly boots at Bigdale. Oof. I know you can wear thick socks to pad out some boots, but this is not that look, and the ankles were baggy. That is Just Not It. I will have to keep looking if I want girly boots. (This is actually not that big a deal, but nothing else ugly happened today.)

I'm sorry the ENT turned up nothing new.

Hooray for the story acceptance! And how frustrating about the smelling thing...

Congrats on the sale, bummer on the olfactory problem, and I have trouble getting boots on cuz of my heavy thighs. I've been doing cowboy boots the last few years, before they came back in style because they fit.

I wear hiking boots (as per stompy icon) most of the time, but I got jealous of [livejournal.com profile] porphyrin's girly boots for with skirts, so now I'm trying to broaden my horizons. It may be that I just won't find off-the-shelf boots that fit me in the style I want, but I haven't tried enough to know that yet.

Good luck finding a pair that fit. Other than cowboy boots, anything that tries to go past my calves explode. Or just won't go on. :)

Yay: sale! My complete sympathies on the ENT and no further clues. As to boots, I found my girly boots at Easy Spirit. Not cheap, but pretty good shoes. The only place that I can always find something that fits.

I've enjoyed some Easy Spirits in the past: they're always comfortable.

Woo, sale!

I would offer you my nose, but it's currently at the mercy of allergies.

Which probably have some effect on your energy levels, too. Bummer.

Awesome. I like BoDW. Oddly, a newsstand in Berkeley sold copies even when none of the SF bookstores in the area had any.

Course, nobody in Hillbilly Junction Vermont has it...

Well, come to think of it, the strap of my favorite duffle bag and its zipper all broke ripped off within 24 hours of each other . . .

Congratulations about the story, and sorry about the lack of diagnosis. Interesting coincidence of the story title, isn't it?

Were the boots bright red, pointy toed, and stilleto heeled? That might have made them ugly. :) Angela tried on a pair like that for fun when we were shoe shopping the other day. I, on the other hand, am trying to find nice looking boots with low (or no) heels. Not much luck so far...

I'm told that Nine West (www.ninewest.com) is having a boot sale. None of them were the extremely specific type I'm looking for at this moment (at least, none that fit), but they might well be what you want.
