Hockey and happiness
Oct. 13th, 2005 07:05 amI am of the opinion that that stinking little thug bastard Bertuzzi should not be allowed to play a pick-up game on a local pond, much less another season of professional hockey, after his disgraceful behavior in the '03-'04 season. As
timprov said last night, "He shouldn't even be allowed to play tonsil hockey." I am also of the opinion that his one-year suspension being counted through the year of labor difficulties is dumber and more unjust than I can express here, especially as I might lose coherence and begin kicking things, which is hard to express on livejournal.
Still, the Wild beating him and the rest of the Canucks 6-0 is very soothing to my feelings.
It's very disconcerting sometimes, turning into my mother like this.
Things I hate about fall in Minnesota: box elder bugs. Ista helps me hunt them, even though they apparently taste much nastier than spiders. So that's good, in a way.
Things I love about fall in Minnesota: everything else but box elder bugs. I love the carpet of yellow poplar leaves on the driveway, and I love the way the pepper plant is starting to curl up, and I love waiting for the wee blueberry bush to blush. I love the smell of leaves and wet pavement when I go outside. I love the tart little local apples they have stacked at Byerly's. I love that I get to wear soft, warm clothes again.
I love that I have been back home here for two years now and find more things to appreciate about it every season. Every day, really. Other things go well or poorly, quickly or slowly, but I am so glad to be here for all of it, either way.

Date: 2005-10-13 04:57 pm (UTC)I kind of like to hear the occasional cricket chirping somewhere unseen, but that's about it for me.

Date: 2005-10-13 03:31 pm (UTC)I'm still not sure whether I'm back with the NHL or not... the fact that "my" team, the Senators, has started off 4-0 is making it difficult to stay off the bandwagon but I find it difficult to support the whole lot of them with my time or money. The strike/lockout fiasco left a very garbagy taste in my mouth.

Date: 2005-10-13 05:13 pm (UTC)[1] Please note: I actually am glad to hear it - this isn't some passive-aggressive way of saying "why didn't you post a spoiler warning?" because I'm not really that worried about spoilers anyway, and because I couldn't have not found out the results of the game without totally coccooning myself.
[2] Their local ECHL team had to cancel its season because of Katrina, so I'm sending them tapes of the Wild games so they don't go into hockey withdrawal before the Olympics get here.

Okay, I'm the closest you're going to find to a Bertuzzi apologist - His action was awful, horrible, and just plain out WRONG, and it should never have happened and I can't help but think that the anti-retaliation rule is responsible.
but there's no damn way that his one year suspension should have counted during the lockout. That's not a punishment at all, as opposed to the mild punishment he should have recieved.
