mrissa: (getting by)

So very tired, my dear ones, and sinus pain like mad. If they tell me I don't have a sinus infection tomorrow, they'd better have some alternate explanation in mind. This is even less fun than the last several months. [livejournal.com profile] timprov also continues poorly.

One of the things I've had the urge for lately is texture. I'm about to shower and put on velvet and corduroy, or else cashmere and leather, I haven't decided. Texture. Deep colors, too -- midnight blue or dark purple, are my immediate choices. Having a new red velvety couch is extremely soothing. I don't think of myself as a touch-dominant or sight-dominant person, but certain aspects of those senses become more important as I'm stressed lately -- maybe because I can't rely as much on scent-stuff not to shift in bad ways on me. I don't know. But it's nice to have something to put on that will feel better, that will make me feel better, as long as I'm wearing clothes anyway.

What's comforting to you right now?

Hugs from my boy. Cuddling my kitties. Hugging my bear (pictured, and he says you're welcome to hug him as well if you like). Being warm.

Hmm. Salt water, like I said the other day.

And the yellowdog, with his lap dog tendencies. And his ears are very, very soft.

Oh, and showers. Good hot showers after you come in from the cold and the water chases the ice right out of your bones.

Hot milky drinks, (Mexican hot chocoate!) gothic novels, going to bed early, hot baths. And on the days when I can make it out before dark, ten miles along the river.

"The Forging of Sampo" by Gallen-Kallela

The colour of red fire from forge is not obvious on the copy, but the original comforted me surprisingly well (and angered me, as I had travelled to visit Helsinkin Ateneumin taidemuseo for a different painting that had helped me year ago, but now looked just blank and uninteresting).

When the "what artist would paint you" meme was going around, Gallen-Kallela was one of the few I could think of who might hit the right notes.

The Russian tea I am drinking right now. I didn't know what it was until about six months ago when we went to a tea shop and I ordered some. My mother decided that I liked it and made some for me to have on a regular basis, but it is good. In case you don't know what it is, it's basically Tang and instant tea. It doesn't sound particularily appetizing when you list what is in it, but the orange flavor is quite nice, so I enjoy it.

Take care.

TK moving around is comforting (when it's not uncomfortable). And kitties sitting on me, especially when they're purring. Foot rubs from Jeff are very comforting too.

I finally broke down and bought the sheepskin boots I've wanted for years. Too casual for work, but I spent all weekend with warm fuzzies round my feet.

Sleep would be very comforting right now. Sleep on a regular schedule that is.

You might go see a dentist. When I was having severe sinus like migraines, it ended up being that I needed to get a root canal in my canine tooth. The root of that, by the xray, runs all the way up into my sinus cavity area.

In fact, I am attempting to get an appointment with a dentist soon. I would like to have a few of T's appointments figured out before then, though.

I AM touch dominant but what is comforting me lately is scent! Well, long hot baths with something smelling good in them. Body Shop's Vanilla spice bubble bath for preference.

Ouch! My vote is drugs and lots of them! Decongestents, misters, tylenol for the pain, and more decongestants. And kleenex.

Tea, especially the Republic of Tea apricot decaf I just discovered.

Snuggling under my red and grey Norwegian wool blanket in my deep purple reading chair with a good book, and the weight of my cats on my lap and legs.

The sound of rain at night. (Well, except for last night, when it was raining so hard that the drainpipe outside our bedroom was going "glug, glug, glug, glug" as though it was draining a bathtub.)

Peanut butter toast.

The cat--he's a silky longhaired kitty, and incredibly affectionate; rubbing my hands through his fur makes us both happy, and sometimes I touch my forehead to his.

Sleeping next to my husband, and just the physical sensation of him against my body.

Tea, warm chai with soy milk.
