mrissa: (getting by)

After having been injected, inspected, detected, neglected, and selected (but not, one hopes, infected), I am happy to say that I do indeed have a sinus infection.

And the crowd goes wild.

We don't have a guarantee that the sinus infection has caused all my problems all along. But we know I definitely have one, and now I have a prescription to deal with it, and if I don't feel better after the antibiotics, I have a referral to an allergist, because the ENT felt strongly that there are indications at this point that it was otolaryngological, not neurological.

We are all in favor of as many problems as possible being non-neurological.

Woohoo!

That is indeed good news, not least because it sounds as though what you have is, in fact, curable--whereas most neurological stuff is at best treatable.

Good news indeed. I hope the round of antibiotics clears up all your problems, but if not, it sounds like you have a solid lead on a cure...

I never thought I would say "yay!" for a sinus infection.

That would appear to be a surprisingly... easy target is not exactly what I mean, but straightforward sort of a thing to have been causing such a set of symptoms for so long; glad it also comes with a straightforward angle of attack for getting rid of it, and pretty quick too. At very least it knocks out a variable.

Exactly.

If it turns out to be an allergy, that's not exactly curable, but somewhere better than treatable somehow.

I never thought I would for my own sinus infection. The world is a very strange place.

Non-neurological is good. We like it when the [livejournal.com profile] mrissa is firing on all cylinders.

Did they have a rationale for thinking it was possible the infection caused all your problems?

Yay, sinus infection! Yay, antibiotics! Go, team!

Bloody hell, it's about time.

And if it turns out to be something annoying and recurrent like polyps, they can scrape your head, like they did to [livejournal.com profile] skzbrust and my friend Asha.

Hey--when my sister had a weird tubal issue she got all kinds of photos. Do you by any chance have any eight-by-ten color glossy pictures with circles and arrows and a paragraph on the back explaining about the sinus infection?

And there are some very nice allergy drugs out there now, at least. Ones that don't make you sleepy all day *or* wired all night. (well, at least for some definitions of 'you'.)

No polyps. But I could even deal with recurrent sinus infections as compared to some of the other possibilities.

It's not likely to be that kind of allergy if it's allergy-related. It's not like I've been itchy-eyed and/or snozzly.

Still. They're always thinking, these people.

Well, yanno. A lack of head-scraping is even better.

Mmmm, sinus infection.

A persistent infection can run anybody's energy down, no question. And messing with the sinuses will mess with smell, but not necessarily consistently or predictably. And those are the main things.

Unless you meant problems like being stubborn and having very little sense of proportion, in which case it's probably not the sinus infection.

Alas, but I left the X-ray film at the clinic, and even that she sort of made circles on in the air but not on the surface.

Probably still a typical case of American blind justice and nothing anybody can do about it.

what Hannah said.

that's true. I just think of that sort of allergy first cause I have some which like to threaten to give me sinus infections, so it made sense to me--they don't usually act up, they just linger and make stuff to drip down the back of my throat.

Good luck with whatever it is.

But we won't know for sure until after the antibiotics kick in. Think of how many parents would be delighted to learn that stubborness could be fixed with a couple of horse pills.
