mrissa: (getting by)
[personal profile] mrissa
After having been injected, inspected, detected, neglected, and selected (but not, one hopes, infected), I am happy to say that I do indeed have a sinus infection.

And the crowd goes wild.

We don't have a guarantee that the sinus infection has caused all my problems all along. But we know I definitely have one, and now I have a prescription to deal with it, and if I don't feel better after the antibiotics, I have a referral to an allergist, because the ENT felt strongly that there are indications at this point that it was otolaryngological, not neurological.

We are all in favor of as many problems as possible being non-neurological.

Woohoo!

That is indeed good news, not least because it sounds as though what you have is, in fact, curable--whereas most neurological stuff is at best treatable.

Exactly.

If it turns out to be an allergy, that's not exactly curable, but somewhere better than treatable somehow.

Good news indeed. I hope the round of antibiotics clears up all your problems, but if not, it sounds like you have a solid lead on a cure...

That would appear to be a surprisingly... easy target is not exactly what I mean, but straightforward sort of a thing to have been causing such a set of symptoms for so long; glad it also comes with a straightforward angle of attack for getting rid of it, and pretty quick too. At very least it knocks out a variable.

Non-neurological is good. We like it when the [livejournal.com profile] mrissa is firing on all cylinders.

Did they have a rationale for thinking it was possible the infection caused all your problems?

Date: 2006-01-31 08:38 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] mrissa.livejournal.com
A persistent infection can run anybody's energy down, no question. And messing with the sinuses will mess with smell, but not necessarily consistently or predictably. And those are the main things.

Unless you meant problems like being stubborn and having very little sense of proportion, in which case it's probably not the sinus infection.

Hey--when my sister had a weird tubal issue she got all kinds of photos. Do you by any chance have any eight-by-ten color glossy pictures with circles and arrows and a paragraph on the back explaining about the sinus infection?

Date: 2006-01-31 08:39 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] mrissa.livejournal.com
Alas, but I left the X-ray film at the clinic, and even that she sort of made circles on in the air but not on the surface.

Probably still a typical case of American blind justice and nothing anybody can do about it.

I've never heard so much cheering for a sinus infection before...but it's preferable to many other possibilities, so, well, ...yay!

Sinus infections can linger around and make everything crappy. I hope this was The Answer and all smells stay the same from now on.

I just finished my dose for a sinus infection. My doctor also thought it might be allergies and I seemed to be having persistant build up, so he gave me a nasal spray to open up my sinuses for a month so they drain well and said that if I start getting the symptoms again, he may try prescribing it for longer. Fortunately, I did have symptoms that pointed to my sinuses right away, namely lots of pain in the sinus spot and halo vision. Who knew painful symptoms could be such a good thing.

I hope everything clears up soon, and I would guess the pain should be gone in a day or two. Take care.

It is ironicalistic that I'm going:

"Oh, *good*. You have a sinus infection? That's fabulous!"

Still. All sorts of energy directed your way from our quadrant, and many hopes that *all* the ENT type symptoms clear up when the infection does.
