mrissa: (question)

We have an extra (clothes) washer/dryer. The folks' move worked out so that they were going to have two washer/dryer sets, both newer than ours. So they gave us theirs, and now we need to get rid of our old ones. They're still functional, but the newer ones are better.

So. What do we do? We could call someone to haul them away to the dump, but they're still perfectly functional. We aren't really looking for money for them if someone can make good use of them who couldn't otherwise afford to get a washer and dryer. Thoughts? Do you know anybody who wants these, or are you such a person yourself?

I'm a big fan of Twin Cities Freemarket for getting rid of functional but unneeded things. Don't list a phone number though.. tooo many calls.

Freecycle (http://www.freecycle.org)

My tiny town of 4000 people is listed, maybe yours is too?

I can list them for you on Freecycle.org if you like, and pass along the responses to your email. Lots of folks have put up wanted posts for washers/dryers lately.

Thanks. If I Freecycle them, I'm willing to handle it myself; I just would prefer to give them to people I know or to a specific charity if anybody happened to know of one.

If you are near a large city it is reasonable to post to Craigslist - usually people will travel as much as 100 miles for free appliances that work well. Just don't be home alone on the day of the pickup!

We are in the Twin Cities metro area. Ten minutes from either Minneapolis or St. Paul. Also in the "just so you know" category, I am almost never home alone, as all three of us who live here also work here most weeks of the month, and no fewer than two of us do.

I didn't look but it's probably likely you have a craigslist in your area then.

I've had some 'odd' people show up when I've given away furniture and these days I take extra precautions to be sure my roommates are around when someone is due to show up.

Too bad...

Too bad I'm in Michigan, although my puny washer and dryer are working just fine so far.
