I am starting to feel more like this Christmas thing can happen in ten days and it'll be okay, like I won't implode trying to get there from here. I hope those of you who celebrate Hanukkah starting tonight are also not imploding. In fact, lack of implosions all around! Hurrah.

I'm going to have to start wrapping some of these presents one of these days, though.

In a little bit, [livejournal.com profile] ladysea and the kids are going to pick me up so we can go downtown to see the Eighth Floor Auditorium at Dayton's. (The sign over the door says Macy's. Last year it said Marshall Field's. I know better. It's Dayton's.) This year they're doing Mary Poppins -- and they chose the book, not the movie, for their inspiration. I have a Mary Poppins/WWI story in Aeon Issue 9, just came out recently. It's probably a good deal darker than the Eighth Floor will be. Gosh, I hope so. (Darker in the "man's inhumanity to man" sort of way, not the "something under the bed ocean is gonna eat your brains" sort of way.) But I'm pleased that it's the book Poppins. She's much meaner than Julie Andrews, and I like it that way. I'm sure we'll have a good time. And gingerbread. Both are key.

(Have I explained this before? I'm almost sure I have. Dayton's always used their eighth floor for big event display thingers. There's a flower show there in the spring, and at Christmas they set out a story in different scenes you can walk through. The details are really fun, and the special effects get better each year. When I was a little kid, we always went the weekend of Thanksgiving, but that was only because that was when we were up seeing the relatives before Christmas. It's really best not to go then -- the crowds are much less.)

I'm still feeling a little scattered and weird, so I may give the doglet a lap for awhile and try to finish this library book before I have to renew it. I hope you all have plans for a good weekend, even if your plan is "stay home and vegetate."

You have, I hope, seen the "Scary Mary" movie trailer?

Hope you've had a wonderful time! That gingerbread there is NUMMY :) I'm hoping we make it there this year, I'd like to see this one!

We did indeed have a wonderful time. I think they did some good things with making it definitely book-influenced rather than movie-influenced, although the songs from the movie were playing. But that's okay.

Am resolved not to implode. It does mean some things I'd fantasized about finishing this year aren't even going to get started until next June, but so be it. (But I will at least take notes tonight on the library books for which I am out of renewals...)

I am eyeing my stack of library books: I need to read something that involves the house of Bourbon not at all. On the other hand, I need to get back to the library books before they're due. I suspect that a quick forage around the stack of Nero Wolfe novels [livejournal.com profile] dd_b lent me will provide a solution of sorts.

Im planing to go play pokeno with friends and get cleaning and packing done for my trip home next week, but I had to say that was an interesting trailer, but also I'm happy that I'm not the only one who runs out of library book renewals!

Staying home and vegging is at the top of the list for this weekend. Followed by a little cleaning and maybe some Chiristmas gift making.
