Meme and stuff
Jan. 10th, 2007 07:20 pmI did this in
greykev's journal, so I'm playing by the rules and doing it here:
respond to this in my journal and....
1. I'll respond with something random I like about you.
2. I'll tell you what song/movie reminds me of you.
3. I'll name something we should do together.
4. I'll say something that only makes sense to you and me (or just me).
5. I'll tell you my first/clearest memory of you.
6. I'll leave you a quote that is somehow appropriate to you.
7. I'll ask you something that I've always wondered about you.
8. If I do this for you, you must post this on your journal.
Except that there are a lot more of you on my friendslist than on Kev's, so I will do as many of those things as seem appropriate, at least including 1 and 7, and I exempt you from 8 if you do participate.
My plans for the evening include finishing writing another chapter of Zodiac House (edited to add: done!), finishing reading
matociquala's book (Carnival, and don't you just love that I have to specify which one, Bear? I would think that would be a neat feeling), working out, scruffing the doglet's head, and finding something else to eat. I am really not all that good at feeding just myself when I try to do it in pieces. It's better for me to eat in pieces -- better for the hypoglycemia -- but that's only true if I don't suck at it. Which I do. I end up whining at my body, "Oh, come onnnnn, I gave you a salad two hours ago, what more do you want?" The second avocado had gone south. I had planned on eating that avocado. Now I have to think of something else. Wailie woe. This is the drawback to feeling antisocial when
markgritter is out of town and
timprov's sleeping during the evenings: when I make dinner plans with friends, not only do I get to see them, but there is a firm notion of Food To Eat. Also I haven't got any food projects for just me this week because I have food projects for other people. So. Um. I think this is why I keep banana muffins in the freezer. Not that you cared, now that I've typed all this.
In other news, I apparently have a new title, "The Knee-Capping Princess of the North." As a title rather than a secret identity, I do not believe this supplants any of my superhero names.
That is all. You may return to your homes.

3. Dinner, lunch, brunch, coffee, something. I am flexible. If you were in town and not feeling foodish, we could sit in my library and talk, or we could go up to the Conservatory, or to the Falls if it was a decent day. Stuff.

7. How did you get into radio in the first place? How did it become an interest, I mean.

5. Corsets and conversation at World Fantasy. So jealous of the prettypretty corsets.
7. We don't really have an "always" yet -- "always, for the three months since I met you" -- hmm. Who and what was your first pet? the first one that was really yours and not your family's in general or something like that.

7. Did you have a favorite childhood TV show? Or did you not like TV as a kid, or did nothing stand out? (I think of this because I have nothing I've "always" wondered and never asked, and so my brain supplied, "And what about...Naomi?" as a question.)

Date: 2007-01-11 03:01 am (UTC)I like memes like this. They have potential-- a survey's a survey, a quiz is just a quiz, a sigh is... never mind, but open-ended character-driven writey things can become much bigger. They don't have to be (which is why I can reply without guilt) but there's room to stretch.

3. Meet in person. I will not Minicon-evangelize you under the circumstances, but if we make it to your neck of the woods (not out of the question, as it is a pleasant and crowded neck), I will poke you about lunch or dinner or coffee or something. Widget-admiration. Etc.

3. Not coming to Minicon, huh? Well, dinner, then, if we make it out there, which is not inconceivable.

3. Really, if everyone in this thread who was urged to come to Minicon did so, my life would be so happy.

5. I remember plunking down in that one set of chairs in the lobby at Minicon last year and talking to you and Pam. That was first, I think.

3. Tea, lunch, breakfast, dinner, hanging out talking with no food or beverages involved. Or Montreal Stuff, or Minneapolis Stuff. I am flexible. (I am aimed at making it to your party if you have one this year, so. Opportunity.)
6. Things are in an uproar here and so I can't find the exact line, but your Narnia poem, about Susan, made my brain go like a struck tuning fork.
7. If not Montreal, where?

Date: 2007-01-11 04:52 pm (UTC)2. The number of songs and movies that remind me of you is truly boggling. This is what comes of spending our teen years together. Let's go with "Young Frankenstein," because it was one of the first ones you and me and Mike and Jackie watched when we started hanging out, and Pearl Jam's "Alive" due to the AcaDec State thing. But there are stacks and scads more.
3. Coffee. Again.
4. Hap-py.
5. There was this tall kid with a cowlick who was around Math Counts and Wits Clash and Knowledge Masters, so I was spending four afternoons a week with him. And we started joking around about having an answer, even if it wasn't the right answer, and, Scott, do you know that was sixteen years ago? Dude. We are so old. (I mean, more you than me. But still.)
6. "Oh, just eat it, it's good." Alternately, "Stand back! I'll handle this!"
7. There are still things I don't know about you after sixteen years. And there are new things I don't know about you that didn't exist not to know sixteen years ago. But the thing is, I don't think any of them qualify as always wondered. I think we finished up always wondered after the first decade or so of being friends. So if you were a tree, what's your favorite color?

4. It is, in fact, all about the lint.
5. The way you boggled when I blurted out, "You're John Carter of Mars! You're so cool!"

Date: 2007-01-14 06:43 pm (UTC)2. Movies movies movies, oy. The old song that reminds me of you is 10,000 Maniacs "These Are Days," because of sitting around your parents' basement back in the day, when you only had one tape the rest of us could stand and that was it. (Not that you had an abundance of tapes we couldn't stand.) The new one is Dar Williams's "You're Aging Well." And brother mine, we are.
3. When you get here, I will cook, and we can watch a movie or get in the hot tub or just hang out or whatever. Other stuff depends on timing, when you decide to come up or when we're in Omaha at the same time. I suppose we could all go somewhere else together, and then what we should do would depend on where. I don't have any particular plans at this point, but we'll see what comes up.
4. Tuesday!
5. I have some memories of trying to make amends for Jessi and Jenni being high school bitchy about your high school mustache, and of you sliding past in the halls too quickly to address, carrying books that might have been interesting but refusing to make eye contact. I really clearly remember being a little perturbed with Jeff for unilaterally deciding that he was going to say he was going to hang out with Scott and me and then deciding that we should hang out with other people I didn't know, but I remember how it smelled like late spring on your parents' back porch, and how you were...umm, how do I put this...less obnoxious than I expected for one of Jeff's friends.
6. I am doing really badly with this one, but I've been telling people when appropriate, "It would have been really inconvenient to have a brother in my childhood, so I have a Kev now instead. Much easier all around." But it is crass to quote oneself, I suppose.
7. How on earth did you find the Mobius trail, that first summer?
