short story stuff
Jan. 19th, 2007 05:49 pmIn 2005, I finished 6 short stories.
In 2006, I finished 8.
This month so far? Three. (Because I just declared "Uncle Flower's Homecoming Waltz" done.)
What does it mean? Among other things, it means that I was sick in '05-'06. And it means that I was doing a lot of fairly scattered work that's now coming together in a big bunch. And it means that I've been working more on short stories, and that's not going to remain constant at one a week for the next 49 weeks.
Still and all: whew. I feel better.
The short story panic ("ack! insufficient short stories!") is to keep the novel panic ("ack! so much waiting!") from setting in. Because the novel panic is much, much worse. So having a few more short stories finished will let me work on the novel not just with fewer distractions from short story ideas, but also with fewer distractions from things I can't control.
It works.
And now I get tofu puffs. Not because I finished the story. Just because.
