That sounds lovely! But it's actually one of the things I'm stressing about: how do I see everybody I want to see in the time I have? and without my little introvert skull imploding?
I think the answer is, I don't. I will make some lunch and dinner plans, and I will make arrangements to be available in known cafes at known times, and otherwise I will go on the assumption that I will have another chance someday.
In May, I am traveling to London with my mother, two sisters, and brother-in-law. My mother was born there and has never been since she was six months old. She's spent her whole life dreaming of going and being an unabashed Anglophile. Now, she gets to go, and we get to be there!
The times I've frozen clothes on the clothes line, generally by mistake but sometimes through excess optimism, they've come in like stiff ghost clothes and still been damp when they thawed. What am I doing wrong?
The world changes overnight. Right now, the world outside the window is pristine white, new and fresh and glittering in the sunlight. The river sleeps under a blanket of ice and cold, waiting for the next new day, waiting for spring.
One day soon, the world will be full of daffodils and baby geese. The river will wake and herons will stalk the shallows again. Hawks will circle overhead, their cries echoing through the trees. The world will change again, in new and beautiful ways.
I get to turn 40 in London next month. And to see Patrick Stewart! And then in May, if plans work out, I get to go back and watch my Mom the lifetime Anglophile see it all for the first time.
And you will be going away to Ireland soon-ish. Ireland, Ireland, ocean, ocean ... sorry, am channelling the Roches. But they're a good thing too.
Mars Rovers Spirit and Opportunity (http://marsrovers.nasa.gov/home/") are still transmitting pictures from a completely different planet after nearly three years, well outside mission parameters.
This one makes me happy every time I think about it, and the pictures they send back make me tear up in joy to be LOOKING at real PICTURES from another planet.
I am possibly going to get to visit Charleston, SC in May, adding another city to the list of neat places I've been.
I finally found a doctor who doesn't dismiss me when I ask about starting breast cancer screenings. Or, possibly, I'm now old enough that they won't dismiss me any more, but either way, it was a good conversation.
I get to eat pizza and watch Torchwood with a bunch of friends tonight.
The VSD had to go to the vet again this morning, and now we have stronger drugs for the VSD. I'm glad she is VS, but I wish she would stay VH for six months at a stretch, too.
Like every-freakin'-one else in this household. But more interested in laser pointers.
We are only a week away from Pop's big surgery date. Which is scary, but also good.
But this is the big forward-looking thing: I stopped over there on Sunday and Mom was telling me about this big driving trip they are planning to take, once it's over and Pop has recovered. It will involve visiting lots of relatives all over the place, but it will be their honeymoon trip. (Finally, they get a honeymoon!) Mom is having Pop plan it to distract him from the Big Upcoming Surgery.
And slightly less exciting and forward-looking for anyone but me: I got new inserts for my running shoes. I am excited about going out and running and possibly having my feet not kill me all the time. Mom looked quite happy and excited about it.
I have gotten to the point where I'm actually writing my dissertation, and I'm excited about it. And it will be finished in the next few months.
Also, I wrote to one of the professors who wrote one of the key papers in the field back in 1977, asking him for some advice on which of his later papers to cite for a recent development, and he wrote a very pleasant reply and expressed quite a bit of interest in seeing my dissertation when it's done.

I'm hoping you will come here and see us in September.
