I am the meanest meanest meanest monkey ever.

Ista's eyes have gotten to the itchy phase of healing, and so I am making her wear her conehead again. She is Extremely Disgruntled. I tried taking it off this morning for awhile, but she wouldn't leave her eyes alone, so here we are again. When I was sitting on the library couch reading, she snuggled the conehead right up against my head and draped a paw over my shoulder. Periodically, she would let out this little sad crooning sigh. Now she has made a nest of my old college quilt on the guest bed and is fixing [livejournal.com profile] markgritter with her imploring, itchy gaze: please won't you take this horrid thing off my head, monkey? Please? Please?

Last night she pulled Piggy into the cone with her to sleep.

It is so very hard to be the bop.

Her dignity is wounded! You are the meanest. This is a violation of her---

hey, what's that you're eating? Is that chicken? Mmmmm...

Heh. Spoken like someone who owns a large, food-oriented dog.

She refused turkey. She refused macaroni. She just doesn't want that thing on her head. I have seen other dogs behave as you describe, but Ista is definitely not one of them. She's just not food-motivated.

No, I know exactly what you mean. Nala liked food, but it was not the most important thing in life to her. Makes them a little trickier to train, and obviously it is one less way to make living with conehead easier. This too shall pass, Ista!

Dogs are so good at the imploring gaze. I wonder how they got so good. My cats have mastered the inscrutable stare. It's not uncommon to hear in our house: "What? What do you want? Stop staring at me!"

My kitties, especially Bella, are very good at the imploring gaze. Especially when it's accompanied by a whiny mew, or (in Bella's case) an adorable squeak.

Mine kitties alternate whining and demands with the cold shoulder, but I'm remaining firm and have not let them out into the subzero out-of-doors where they are used to doing their business.

Have you read "Max and the Typhoon"?

No; I haven't. Does it involve cats?

Oh, yeah. Max was a cat who _had_ to go outDURING a typhoon.
Google Max Typhoon, & scroll down to bookcase.com. There is a squiggle that I can't use on my computeratthis point, claudia/mt/archives/000932.html. Then part II is 000933.html

Poor bop. I'm glad she's improving.

Oh, tragic bop!

I love the crooning sigh. As dogly delights go, it's right up there with the growly yawn and the happyyou'rehome wiggledance.

Ista has, in addition to the growly yawn, the growly yawn with request for confirmation at the end. Arrrrohhhhhhhh...errr? It is The Cute.

Not quite. You're not screeching and throwing poo at her.

Westminster Kennel Club Show on USA last night! The standard poodle won his group, the toy poodle won his (or hers, I wasn't noticing) so there is a 2 of 7 chance a poodle will win best in show tonight!

Lovely! Poor darlings, though: the breed standard cut is just stupid-looking. I know its historical origin and all that. It's still just stupid-looking, and they're almost all too smart to have to go around looking stupid like that.

We kept our big son-of-s-bitch (black standard) in a modified puppy cut most of his 12-year life. James, the Springer who won last night, must have really been On in person, because Harry the PBGV seemed more On to me on tv.

Yah, we're keeping Ista in a modified puppy cut as well. She isn't hunting and she isn't showing, so there's no reason for poofs!
