Went in to get my back fixed this morning, and I've been squirmy all day, trying to feel whether things are back where they belong adequately. (Answer: I think so, but things have hurt a fair bit in finding their own spots again.)

I made rosemary buns and [livejournal.com profile] pameladean's potato stew recipe today, and really, there are worse things than that for the smell of a house.

"Carter Hall Judges the Lines" is making like it wants to be a novelette. (Or a novelet, I guess, but I took too many years of high school French to want to pronounce that final t.) I am making like I don't want it to be. When it's me vs. the fiction, you know who wins, but sometimes it's ugly getting there. I should just concede....

Oo, you made the potato stew! It certainly does make the house smell delectable, though I find that carnivores are often disappointed, because they think it smells meaty, and there is no meat in it.

I didn't think it smelled meaty, but I can see where the soy-potato combination in particular might ring in that key of nose.

I am sorry to be so pushy, but I must plead for the recipe.
Please? Pretty please? I checked with Uncle Google and pameladean.livejournal.com, and your website, I swear.

No problem at all -- I don't think either of us is the sort of person who wants to keep recipes deep, dark secrets. Here's the version I copied down:

6 cloves garlic, smashed
2-6 quarter-sized slices ginger
1/4 c. oil
4 fist-sized potatoes, peeled and chopped
1/2# green beans, cut up
2-3 carrots, peeled and chopped
6-8 oz. mushrooms, halved (I used crimini and it was fine)
1/4 c. soy sauce
2-4 t. sugar
2 T sherry/mirin/rice wine
2 c. water
1 t. red pepper flakes, optional

Heat oil. Drop in garlic, ginger, potatoes, carrots, and green beans. Pause briefly, stirring. Add mushrooms. Pause again, stirring. Add other ingredients. Bring to a boil; cover and simmer on low 20 minutes. Uncover, turn heat up, and boil away much of liquid.

The soup and buns were very tasty too. :) Thanks!

Steve is happy that you are singing that song and not John Denver. Says that he hopes that he remembered to credit the creator.

Unless perchance you are singing bits without yet having the song?

(And did you concede? I am of two minds - I want the best hockey stick to win, and yet there's "...my god, I love to write!" persuading Railroad Bill too.)

He did not, in fact, credit the creator, nor do I have the whole thing.

I did concede. It's a novellette. Sigh.
