Also, it is extremely unfair of spammers to use ex-boyfriends' names. I'm just saying.

(If I hadn't had that summer fling with Aloysius Q. Stereophonic when I was 15, this would be less of a problem.)

The Stereophonics are such famous rapscallions.

None of us can be held responsible for what we did at 15.

Being reminded of it is just cruel.

And frankly I'm surprised that Aloysius would use that ancient connection to attempt to sell me on a mortgage rate. It seems rather tacky.

(But then, after my high school class reunion, everyone in the class got e-mails from a couple from the class: they were real estate agents, and if any of us ever wanted to buy or sell a house in Omaha.... Sigh.)

Hm. One of my sophomore-year roommates' names showed up in spam today. Maybe I should keep an eye out for the other one. (One had the name of a character in the Odyssey, one had the name of a county in Ireland, so neither is entirely common.)

(Now watch me get spammed by Cyclops Q. Cork.)

I'm finding it disconcerting enough to be getting lots of stuff on a mailing list from a random person who happens to share a surname with one of my partners. Not a full name, just a surname.

As much as I enjoy getting regular e-mails from Dana Scully, I'd much rather she just came for an extended visit.

Sooo... you're now telling us that being a misanthrope in your youth would have been an advantage today?

Since if I HAD any girlfriends when I was 15 I wouldn't want to hear from them today, this wouldn't be a problem for me. There is the occasional familiar name, but I have really good SPAM filters and any name that I haven't initiated an exchange with gets automatically screened. (
). There ARE some clever spammers out there - but NONE of them survive the eyeball screening.

Crap. I keep forgetting that the double < thingies disappear here. that used to be a convention for denoting keying. The process is;
