There is much shiny in my life right now. Also, I have coffee. And Nick Cave's music. Also yesterday was my first wedding anniversary and I have the best husband in the history of husbands.
Yesterday at the vet's, we met a four-week-old dachshund puppy named Isis who bestowed lickies of unusual vigor whilst nearly slaying all about her with her preternatural cuteness.
It's 75 degrees in Brooklyn, I'm in shorts and a t-shirt, and my big debate is whether to grade papers in the sunshine in the back yard or in the sunshine in my office.
I hope the difficulties surrounding this dreadful decision do not require therapy down the road. My thoughts are with you in this tough time. Stay strong.
While camping careswen and I discovered the Froog pantheon. I will not be writing a Great Allegorical Novel about froogs, titled watership marsh. I feel this to be a very good thing.
I have a sea-serpent puppet cuddled under my small stuffed blue dragon's wing. Under the other wing is a malachite cat. It's very cozy under my monitor.
I have the day off, because us wimps in academia get even the minor holidays[1]. This meant that I could sleep in and then proceed to lounge around at great (lack of) speed.
My microwave popcorn popper works great and results in a snack that's both cheaper[2] and healthier than the pop-in-a-bag-full-of-weird-chemicals stuff.
The hot weather seems to have finally left, at least for today. (This is New England, after all.)
[1] Those of us in Massachusetts even get a Monday off around tax filing deadline time, which often results in getting an extra day to file because the IRS service center in Andover closes even though the USPS doesn't.
[2] The popper was less than $10 at my favorite French boutique. (It's spelled "Target", but it's pronounced "Tarzhay".) Unpopped kernels are somewhere around a buck a pound for Jolly Time or half that for the store brand. A two pound bag makes somewhere around 16 servings. Add spices to taste.
We actually got a break this past weekend and it felt good to just relax a bit. Also, Amber got to see her favorite person "Gam-pa!" and her second favorite "Gramma!" Mom threatened to leave Dad behind next time... :)
Sargon, Hammurabi, Ashurbanipal and Gilgamesh. (http://www.stereogum.com/archives/video/new-they-might-be-giants-video-mesopotamians.html) Well, OK, they amused me. Hope they can do the same for you. (Hope I'm not giving the link back to the person who gave it to me!)
Also, having tea with you was exceptionally fine, and I want to do that again soon. Which means I should e-mail you. ;-)
Hee. TMBG played that at the concert timprov and I and porphyrin's Mike went to last month. Am fond.
It was indeed fine to have tea with you, and I want to do it again soon, too, and e-mail is good. And also I have just sampled the first of the experimental chocolate walnut sea salt cookies, and it is the beginning of a thing, I think. The final form may be slightly different. But this was in fact a thing.
