I hope that those of you who are having any kind of Christmas at all are having as good a Christmas as mine. Perfect Christmases are not built out of perfect people having perfect days. Perfect Christmases are built out of sleep-deprived people, people with colds, people with allergies or ear infections or sudden bouts of random baby crankiness, and yes, vertiginous people, spending time together because they love each other, or because they love people in common with each other.

Snow and very good homemade hot chocolate don't hurt, either.

I know some of you were hoping that the vertigo would take yesterday and today off. I was, too. It didn't. But it didn't ruin my Christmas Eve, it didn't ruin Christmas Day, and there is celebratory time with loved ones yet to come, some of it yet to schedule. And all of that is wonderful even when the loved ones seem to tilt and spin a little.

Tomorrow morning [livejournal.com profile] markgritter and I will leave for Milwaukee to see the Gritter side of the family as soon as he can manage to get up and at 'em. We return Friday night. We have been given great quantities of Kalevi Aho and Louis Armstrong music to while away Wisconsin.

I'm having a very good Christmas, indeed. Even though, yes, people with colds and baby crankiness, and three-year-olds being three (well, ok, just one, but still). I'm glad to hear you're having a good one too.

I am now making some hot chocolate. Green and Black's Maya Gold mix, rather than from scratch, because it's easier and also quite good.

I will try to tilt and spin as little as possible. But I can't make any promises!

Tilting and spinning are fine! It's seeming to tilt and spin that's the problem.

Today is not Christmas, but we had two games of backgammon going at once, with ample trash talk and some incredible rolls, hot chocolate that Mom didn't have to make, cookies, more backgammon, and then a truly disappointing dice game in which I managed not to break three thousand. We've had a game of Scrabble (Baby Sister put QUE on a triple-word, I wasn't at the table so I didn't challenge it, my brother changed it to QUEEN a couple turns later, and then I stretched QUEENIER to the other triple-word for a lot of points, the lead, and some very dirty looks) and more hot chocolate. As with any game, yeah, trash talk. This seems to be how we show our love.

I'm glad setbacks, whether small, large, or spinny, aren't keeping you from your holiday.
