mrissa: (winter)

I've been a bit quiet this week, internally as well as externally. Seeing some progress at the PT testing was very heartening, but it has not yet translated into feeling any better at all, so it's still occupying much to most of my time and energy, physically and emotionally. Most related issues are not things I want to talk about much, but I will note that when you aren't sure if you'll have more than 15-20 minutes at the computer before the dizziness gets overwhelming, it's hard to get fiction written -- even if you do end up getting more than 15-20 minutes in that session, just knowing that it's often not working out that way has a dampening sort of effect, particularly on long and complicated bits of revision. Still, I've gotten small bits written on a short story, and several people who love me use phrases like "short-term medical leave" repeatedly and firmly until I might even start to listen.

It's snowing pretty hard here -- not whiteout blizzard conditions, but a good heavy spring snow. I think spring snow is even prettier than winter snow most times, when it's really snow and not the dreaded Snow And Rain Mix. Still, all thoughts of taking a spring coat to Minicon are out of my head now: winter coat, gloves, hat, scarf.

I will be away from the computer from about midday today until tomorrow late evening, and I won't be much on the computer Sunday, either. Be well and have a happy Easter, a happy Minicon, a happy whatever else you might be having this weekend.

Clearly, you need to do some dictation. :D

Have much fun at Minicon, M'ris!

You must have shared, for we have a lovely little snow coming in here. :> I nearly want to laugh, after people assured me we were done with snow (this IS the Midwest, c'mon).

I wonder if someone could get you one of those speak-to-computer programs...

-hugs-

Have you tried any of the voice-to-text programs? They've apparently vastly improved them. I've another writer friend who has difficulty with typing, and so she "talks" her writing now.

On a completely unrelated note - would you please remind me about the Hungarian foods website? I just found out a friend of mine is Hungarian, and I started telling her about the website and she practically leaped over the table to grab me and shake me because she wanted the link.

I have no difficulty with typing. It's reading text on the screen that's the problem.

Alas, but you can only use the website to tell what they have at Otto's (http://members.aol.com/HungImprts/Ottos.htm); to order, you have to use the phone or fax. Or be in LA. But still, using the website as a catalog works, and calling Otto is its own fun.

Typing is fine. Typing is no problem. It's reading text on the screen that's the problem -- and I am only good at working from hearing it read on a very few narrowly defined things.

I wonder...if any of those programs can then read what you just "said-wrote" back to you...

And Ah HAH!

All I could remember was that his name began with "O" - I kept saying Olaf, and I knew it wasn't right, but it was the shortest male "O" name that my brain could come up with.

But wouldn't you prefer to have a cabana boy typing it up for you, occasionally topping off your pina colada?
