We have also been having tomato worms, but so far they have stayed on the outside of the tomatoes -- not out of any concern for our preferences, but because they want to eat the leaves too. The tomato plant is looking rather bedraggled.
My tomatoes are not ripe yet but as far as I can see they remain worm-free. The ones in a few of my potatoes (which, happily, are a vegetable one usually cuts up well before eating), on the other hand, have wormed back and forth into a network of rather intricate little tunnels, with only a tiny hole on the outside to show how they got in. Much more interesting than slugs, which just leave slimy gnawed bits.
