At [livejournal.com profile] moiread's request, I have posted my chili verde recipe. For those of you who have a lot of tomatillos on hand or can get them, mostly; for some of you this will be a recipe for next summer/fall. Our plan is to see how much we miss chili verde when we've used up all the frozen tomatillo goop and then judge from there whether we'll put more tomatillo plants in the garden next year. Processing tomatillos is tedious and sticky, but the results are very satisfying.

My contributions to tomorrow's holiday meal are fairly incidental and easy to accomplish, so I am not in the turkey-induced panic some of you seem to be feeling. When I did the main dish for Thanksgiving, we had lasagna, because I don't like turkey particularly; on the other hand, I don't dislike turkey so much as to be unable to eat it for one meal (one yammy, stuffingy meal), and my grandmother really loves it. So it's just as well that Mom is willing. And we'll have lasagna Saturday night anyway, so all is well on that front.

I'm still missing an herb for the stuffing (summer savory; seems to be out of stock city-wide), but I'm far short of "panic". We can live without it if we have to.

If you can do with dried, have you tried Penzies?

That's the place I hope to get to this afternoon. Many co-ops and grocery stores have come up empty already.

I think turkey makes a great flavoring for stuffing. Mmmm... If I hosted Thanksgiving dinner, I would make a fake turkey out of stuffing and then add just enough turkey meat and broth to make it turkeyish.

This is such a sound notion.

Strange thing is that my mom and I had just discussed a Lasagne alternative for Thanksgiving. After having it firmly vetoed by others in our family, it is nice to hear that someone else shares our thought. :)

I am only in a pie-induced panic, mostly because there were bugs in the flour, and I briefly thought that I had no cash, meaning a bus trip rather than a short walk. However, I had cash hiding amongst the receipts in my wallet. The mince pie is in the oven and the vegan pumpkin pie is next on my list. Last will be apple. Whee!

I am morally offended by weavilly wheat. What century is this! Honestly!

I know! Why is this not a SOLVED PROBLEM?

I have seen no little moths fluttering about, either, and nothing else is infested, so I suspect it just came that way. Bah.

The turkey exists first as a vessel to cook stuffing in, and immediately afterward as a source of gravy material. Subsequently it is used to generate turkey sandwiches, wild rice and turkey soup, and "turkey goop," which is what we eat the night after Thanksgiving, when my mother shreds leftover Turkey into the leftover gravy and we pour the result over the leftover stuffing and leftover mashed potatoes.

Slices of turkey on the actual day are incidental at best.

Turkey is an ingredient of Ole Tacos, but other than that I'm not keen.

[livejournal.com profile] timprov has made a squash (and pear and blackberry and lo these many other things) salad for Thanksgiving Round Two. I don't think I could convince anyone here to have squash risotto with me, alas. Sage in it?
